Verbal Abuse In Janie s Reluctance
How many problematic situations could be prevented if people were to simply talk things out?
One of the most vexing aspects of the novel is not Jody s constant verbal abuse, but Janie s
submission to said abuse. Janie s reluctance to challenge the men she holds accountable for her
problems portrays her character as submissive, a trait that her anxiety will never allow her to get
rid of. While many problems that Janie doesn t deserve manage to find their way to her anyway,
the outcomes are partially her fault since she never attempts to resolve them, instead opting to
place the blame on someone else. Naw, Jody, it wasn t because Ah didn t have no sympathy. Ah
had uh lavish uh dat. Ah just didn t never git no chance tuh use none of it. You wouldn t let me.
(85) Jody may not be the type of man who deserves any sympathy, but the last sentence of this quote
from Janie goes to show where she believes the root of the problem lies. Instead of confronting her
husband about the issues in their marriageto foster more understanding and therefore bring sympathy

It s so easy to make yo self out God Almighty when you ain t got nodiin tuh strain against but
women and chickens. (75) In this statement, Janie highlights the real issue of lust for power within
the men of her town, and even directs her words to those men. By comparing them to God and
women to chickens, she manages to create a perfect metaphor for the power dynamic of their
reality. Janie did what she had never done before, that is, thrust herself into the conversation. (75)
Though submissive at heart, Janie somehow musters up enough courage to challenge the status quo.
However, Janie s forthright approach to addressing sexism falls on deaf ears, and she is ridiculed by
the townsfolk and her husband alike. Though idealistic and courageous at times, the fact that she
allows the harassment to get to her is a sign that she lacks

Utopia Vision Statement
When I first began college, I knew that I wanted to major in civil engineering; However, knowing
that my major would take up all of my units after finishing the general education classes, I knew
that I could not afford to take any extra classes, to explore and expand my own curiosity and
knowledge of what is available. Instead, I decided to invest my academic career focusing on
engineering. As freshman students began college, many students asked themselves that oh so
common and over beaten life question what is the point of college?, while others wondered if it
was it a place to explore and discover more about one s self. Well now, thanks to Kwame Anthony
Appiah, who teaches philosophy at N.Y.U. and wrote an article What Is the Point of College?, he
explains two visions which are Utility U. and Utopia U. as well as the habits students possess at
the start of college. As students first enter the college world they go through what is known as,
Utility and/or Utopia vision; However, one vision would be stronger than the other. A Utility vision
is when you want to know if you are getting a profitable return in an investment, while the same
students are also act out the role of a consumer. Utility U. possess certain requirements that need to
be filled and will pay for expenses in exchange for quick responses such as the desire, to be taught.
Plus the fact that, Utility U. is concerned with value, echoing the idea in the section in, Utilitarians

The Crucifixion Was A Form Of Capital Punishment Essay
The song says, They are nailed to the cross, they are nailed, the cross, oh how much he was
willing to bear, with great anguish and loss, Jesus went to the cross and he carried my sins with
him there. You can believe that Jesus died and rose again, you might even believe that he was
crucified and that he is coming again for his church, but if you don t believe that you have to be
crucified with him, then you have a serious problem. My brothers and sisters, for a Christian, taking
up your cross and following God is not an option, its a requirement. I pray that you find
encouragement to continue on your journey in this section.

N If you do any kind of research history will tell you that the crucifixion was a form of capital
punishment where the victim is tied or nailed to a large wooden beam, I m sure in many cases, they
have been severely beaten and wounded before being left to hang for days until they eventually die
from exhaustion and asphyxiation. As cruel and painful as this sounds, the crucifixion is still being
used in some countries today as a death penalty. We know some information about being crucified,
but few understand how brutal and cruel it is.

To say that you are being crucified with Christ and not expect to go through any kind of suffering is
simply unheard of. Lets take a closer look at the crucifixion, I think it s important for us to realize
what happens during crucifixion so we can know what we are up against.

It starts with the wrists, being nailed

Essay on Racial Segregation in Beauty Pageants
Racial Segregation in Beauty Pageant
The United States of America supposedly encompasses resilience and advocates equality.
Apparently, the United States of America abides for progress on racial discrimination and
understands, accepts, and respects all races. But in reality we are not united with all races; thus we
just make up America, not the United States of America. President Barack Obama affirms, ....there is
not a black America and a white America and latino America and asian America there s the United
States of America (Obama). In pursuance to evolve into the United States of America, as opposed
to a disembodied one, we need to act like the unrestricted, free willing, and affirmative country that
we say we are.

If we did not think so ignorantly, then we would have realized that Nina stands as an American,
even though being of Arabic descent or practicing Islam would not make her any less qualifiable
for the crown. Nina comes from an Indian, more specifically a Hindu family. Her parents are from
Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh which lies hundreds of kilometers away from Saudi Arabia. On top
of that, Saudi Arabia and India have had problems with each other and would not like to be
affiliated with one another. My guess of Nina being Arabic can be recorded as a nescience
misunderstanding because of Nina s complexion. Nina has a deep brown complexion and if she
were to participate in an Indian beauty pageant she would probably have a tough time being
accepted in the Indian audience as well. Although Nina is breathtakingly beautiful, she confronts the
ideal Indian beauty by having a darker skin tone. India gives importance to skin lightening
techniques, and the idea follows that the lighter the skin tone, the more beautiful the girl is. The
irony of Nina s win will redefine the beauty standards across India and America.
As we have already established, Nina has Indian ethnicity, but she is American born. Like Nina, I am
an Indian born American too, and it is not always easy balancing Indian cultures and American
cultures together. Nonetheless, Nina shows off her Indian talents without stepping out of American
V for Vendetta Analysis Essay
Seminar Assignment V for Vendetta 2a) Describe the differences between the fascist Norsefire
government s and V s anarchist view of a healthy country. How do Norsefire and V define the role
of the government and the role of the citizen differently? The chaos and fury of the violence of the
post apocalyptic Britain initiated the radically right winged Norsefireregime: fascists that united
with the surviving big companies and businesses, giving them the appearance of wealth and
stability. Yet, even if the Norsefire regime did agreeably bring order back to the country, there was
a price to pay: ethnic and racial minorities like Black people, Indians, and Pakistanis were gathered
and place in concentration... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurs just before buildings are about to explode. People are amazed by the beauty of the
music and it is as though they come alive. It seems that the citizens snap out of their brainwashed
life when they hear the music blasting in the streets. They even find the explosion amazing instead
of tragic. This technique used by V enables him to capture the citizens attention and pull them away
from the grip that Norsefire has on them. It also ridicules the destruction of buildings that were of
value to the Norsefire government. 2c) Why do you think that the Norsefire government has
censored and banned certain types of books, art objects, films, and popular songs from the past?
Censoring and banning items is generally associated with dictatorship. The Norsefire government
uses censorship to promote a flattering image of themselves and to remove any information that goes
against them. They do this to control their people. Norsefire uses these dictatorship techniques for
their own benefit. It restrains the opposition, broadcasting only a particular point of view. Individual
liberty is severely cut short by censoring and banning certain elements from the past. Censorship
changed the society from being open to now being a closed one. It resembles a totalitarian society. It
is used to control the actions and thoughts of the citizens, to make the public into an obedient,
thoughtless crowd who does not even see that there is anything
Muscatine Should Build A Dog Park
Dog park In my opainon I think that Muscatine should build a dog park. Because it would be good
for the dogs to be able to get exercise. Bad behavior from the dogs could be pervented. Also it could
raise property values around the communite. I will be telling the people why we think it is a good
idea to have a dogpark with the explains that i have listed. First, dogs that dont have the room to
be able to run and play could. Dogs that live in Rental units dont have space for them to run and
you have to keep them on leashes. Letting a dog run and get exercixe could keep them mental and
physical healthy. When you let a dog run for a while they become very happy... Show more content

For example from a study in 2013 it was reported that 65% of owners blammed the bad behavior
on the dogs. When you let dogs off leashes out side of the dog park they could get into dog fights
if they have never really be around another dog before, that is why Muscatine should build one so
dogs can get use to being around other dogs. Also people getting bit could be pervented. When
New York City started letting dogs off leash dog bite reports went from 40,000 to fewer than
4,000 per year. Third, building a dog park in Muscatine would raise the property values in their
communities. People who live in a apartment that does not have a back yard or somewhere a dog
can run freely they could take them to the dog park. The dog and its owner is happy and always
have a safe fun place to go. In addition the owner wouldn t have to worry about there dog getting hit
by cars, running out in the middle of the street, and injuring people.

In conclusion, I think that Muscatine should build a dog park. Because it would be good for the
dogs to be able to get exercise. Bad behavior from the dogs could be mostly pervented by them
having fun and getting all there energy out. It would raise property values. The people wouldn t
have anything to worry about since they could take there dog to the dog park. That is why i think it
would be a good idea for them to
The Effects Of Ocean Pollution On The Marine Ecosystem
Ocean pollution comes in many forms with each having some sort of effect on the marine
ecosystem. Ocean pollution is destroying earth s waters, because its killing populations of
organisms in the water all over the ocean, Its destroying coral reefs and water is being contaminated
with oil, garbage and chemicals.Which in turn is destroying organisms all over the ocean. For the
purpose of this paper, it will be logical to categorize these pollutants into three main areas; garbage,
chemical, and noise pollution. When thinking about these topics it is not only important to look at
the devastation that it brings to sea life, but also how it impacts human and animal life as well.

The most obvious pollutant comes in the form of garbage. Garbage is a visible source that we
can see floating on the water s surface. Among the garbage, plastic appears to be the most harmful
to marine life. There is an average of 13,000 pieces of plastic litter scattered around every square
kilometer of the ocean. An average of 6.4 million tons of marine litter reaches the oceans every year
according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). At this rate scientists predict a
bleak future for the oceans which are a vital to our planet s existence.

Once garbage whether plastic or not reaches the oceans, the currents take it many miles off shore.
The place it ends up is a place that is termed an oceanic desert. The scientific name is gyre. A gyre is
a slowly moving, clockwise spiral of
Parental Knowledge and Attitude Towards Antibiotic Usage...
Antibiotics are the most frequently prescribed and misused drugs and there are reported concerns
about the continuous indiscriminate and excessive use of antibiotics leading to emergence of
antibiotic resistant organisms (McLellan and Gray 2001; Krivoy et al. 2007). The use of
antimicrobial agents, especially antibioticshas become a routine practice for the treatment of
pediatric illnesses (Ghai and Paul 1988; Summers and Summers B 1986). According to Dowell et
al. (1998); Nyquist et al. (1998); Nash et al. (2002) a substantial portion of prescribed antibiotics is
considered nonessential, and such prescribing may be due to reasons related to: patients, parents or
guardians, or the physicians.

Materials and Methods
Study design and population A cross sectional survey was conducted from October 2013 to January
2014 among 500 parents using the validated questionnaire. Parents were attending most frequented
pharmacies in Tetovo, Republic of Macedonia. The inclusion criteria were: (1) Adults aged 18 years
and over; (2) Parents of children younger than 14 years; (3) aware of the term Antibiotics . Verbal
consent was obtained from all study participants before administering the questionnaire. No personal
identifiers were included in the form.
Questionnaire development and structure This self administered questionnaire was developed by
reviewing relevant literature and questionnaires used previously in similar studies (Panagakou et
al. 2009; McNulty et al. 2007; Shehadeh et al. 2012; Ling et al. 2011; Alzoubi et al. 2013; Lim et
al. 2012). In the first part of the questionnaire, information about the parents sex, age, education
level, number of children aged 1 week and 14 years and experience of antibiotic use was noted. The
second part was made up of ten knowledge statements covering aspects including: role of antibiotics,
identification of antibiotics, dangers of using antibiotics (antibiotic resistance, allergy reaction) and
antibiotic efficacy. Parents were asked to respond with either Yes , No or Not Sure . The third part
contained ten attitude statements
The Artifacts Of The Past
To understand the past, we have to understand the artefacts of the past. Artefacts show us another
kind of history, and another way of approaching the past. Not only do they frame the way we interact
with the world, they also influence the way we think about it as a whole. So when one questions the
ownership of these artefacts, they also question the historybehind it. Because the history of art is, for
the most part, a history of theft; questions over its ownership are bound to ensue. So, how do we
decide who owns art, and subsequently, history? Prevailing postcolonial ideologies, might
characterise museums as imperial despoilers in which their possession of artefacts showcase the
dispossession of cultural identity from the colonised,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polybius was one of the first historians to criticise the Romans and their actions, and since only
fragments of his ninth book have been preserved, the full extent of Polybius criticism is
unattainable. However his strong disapproval of the seizure of the Syracusan art is clearly
evident. Polybius stated, a city is not adorned by external splendours, but by the virtue of its
inhabitants (Polybius, c.200 c.118 BC). He presented two rhetorical arguments against the removal
of Syracusan art. Firstly, he claimed that art contributed nothing to the power and expansion of the
city. Additionally, he also questioned whether the victors could become great while living simply.
If they could, why should they imitate the weaker people they defeated? (Miles, 2008). Polybius
stated that victors should not strip the cities under the idea that the misfortunes of another are an
ornament to their own country (Polybius, c.200 c.118 BC). However, historian Erich S. Gruen
argues that Polybius criticism of Roman extraction of art from Syracuse was a tactical error rather
than a moral failure , as Polybius himself was bound by the envy and fear of what the art would
incite in regards to Greco Roman relations (Gruen, 1992). Art looting became a standard practice
after Napoleon took over the French army. Looting was undertaken to raise funds to support the war
effort, and to elevate morale in Paris. Under Napoleon, the Louvre museum became an
