Interprofessional Communication in Healthcare
Reflection on the Handover Video Vignette The issue of inter professional communication is a
critical aspect of contemporary healthcare to enhance team communication and collaboration; its
unique principle is the ability of building mutual trust, understanding and support in healthcare
environment (Portsmouth, Coyle amp; Trede, 2012). More importantly, it ensures patient s intensive
care and outcomes effectively. In this reflective essay, by approaching the 5Rs framework for
reflection, I will be evaluating and analysing my personal characteristics, namely assertivenessand
active listening skills compared to characteristics of two health professionals working in
multidisciplinary team through a pregnancy related stroke handover.... Show more content on

Also, there are hardly communication barriers between them. Accordingly, this could be explained
that they had a completely handover performance as a result of effective inter professional
communication and collaboration in order to optimise patient s outcome. Initially, I questioned
myself whether I might have reflective practice skills like two clinicians when conducting a clinical
process appropriately in the inter professional communication environment. Although I could
possess these characteristics as my personality trait, I realize that there is a gap of cognitive
knowledge to meet effective communication strategies in professional practice. Apparently, as a first
year nursing student, I have not sufficiently developed my ability to perform assertive and active
listening skills like them. As the pregnancy related stroke case is to threaten the safety for Sally and
her baby, there should have proper characteristics of teamwork communication to cooperate
adequately. However, I could not manage my voice and body posture calmly, relaxed if I encounter
this situation; moreover, I might have some limitation of conveying handoff professionally and
confidently like James. Then, although I am used to be good at active listening skill, I may interrupt
James to clarify patient s information sometimes; even I could not

A Farewell to Arms, by Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway defined a hero as, A man who lives correctly, following the ideals of honor,
courage and endurance in a world that is sometimes chaotic, often stressful, and always painful. It
is blatantly apparent that Henry, the protagonist of A Farewell to Arms, did not exemplify any of
these traits at all in the beginning of the novel. However, as the book progressed, Henry gradually
learned how to be a Hemingway Hero , and he eventually progressed to the point where he
completely embodied all that is expected of such. It is crucial to realize, however, that Henry did
not become a textbook example of a Hemingway Hero overnight. It would have been absolutely
impossible for Henry to become the man he was at the end of the novel... Show more content on

What Henry experienced during this particular time significantly impacted him and helped him
break away from the blueprint of the average soldier . Becoming a member of the army was of
great benefit to Henry because it was the one thing that really pushed him over the edge and
shattered the world as he knew it. The whole experience of the retreat was a crucial part of the
book because it gave Henry the insight he needed to grow into a Hemingway Hero. Events like
Aymo s death and Bonello s cowardice definitely influenced Henry, but bigger events like the
killing of the sergeant was what really changed Henry the most. Henry s encounter with the battle
police was truly sobering as well. He found what they were doing to the officers disgusting and
dishonorable, but after all that is what happens amid the chaos of a retreat. I saw how their minds
worked; if they had minds and if they worked. They were all young men and they were saving
their country (Hemingway 224). When Henry saw the darker side of the army, and just how
wrong everything that was happening really was, he truly changed inside. After he finally did
escape, he completely abandons the army forever, Anger was washed away in the river along with
any obligation (Hemingway 232). It was at this moment Henry truly embodied a Hemingway Hero.
Equally important in Henry s development into a Hemingway Hero was his love for Catherine.
Before Henry met Catherine he was extremely selfish. This was

Fun Home by Alison Bechdel Essay
Fun Home Picking up the book Fun Home, one would imagine that the novel would embellish some
sort of comical life story of a misunderstood teenager. Although the short comic book structured
novel does have its sarcastic humor, Alison Bechdel explains her firsthand account of growing up
with the difficulty of living of finding her true identity. Alison was a teenager in college when she
discovered that she was a lesbian, however, the shock came when she also discovered her father was
homosexual. I feel that the most influencing panelin Fun Homeis where Alison and her father are in
the car alone together. Not only does this panel explain the entirety of the novel in a few short
speech bubbles, but it is the defining scene that connects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He finally realizes the truth about his daughter, which I believe eternally, hurts him. Why is
Bruce so upset over this realization? Bruce does not want to see his daughter suffer through the
same fate as he has encountered throughout the years. He has lived a life filled with lies;
therefore, his life is filled with regret and unfulfillment. He wants what every father wants for his
daughter, to be successful with a family of her own. For example, we can see throughout Fun
Home that Bruce makes his daughter wear jewelry and feminine clothes, despite her complete
distaste to the feminine style. There are three occurrences where Allison and her father are fighting
about jewelry to wear (97). Allison refuses to wear pearls to the, but her father insists because there
is an internal alarm going off in his head (99). As a child Bruce dressed himself as a girl, now as an
adult he wants to prevent his daughter from cross dressing (221). Essentially when we arrive at the
car scene Bruce was trying to prevent his daughter from becoming like him. The ultimate realization
of his daughter s sexuality unfolds and to him, he has failed his job of preventing this from
happening. Understanding the movement and background we can understand the actual
conversation between the two characters. This is crucial to understanding the larger predicament of
the situation. This
Angela s Ashes Research Paper
Frankie McCourt frankle frank
Life was difficult for a child growing up in Depression era Ireland. Frank McCourt used his
childhood experiences growing up in extreme poverty to write his highly successful memoirs. A
late bloomer who worked as a teacher for thirty years before writing, he did not publish his first
major work, Angela s Ashes, until he was 66 years old ( Frank McCourt Biography.com ). McCourt
utilized his experiences growing up in poverty in 20th century Ireland in order to write several gritty
memoirs late in his life.
McCourt lived a dismal childhood, his life beginning in Brooklyn, New York in 1930, to two Irish
immigrants ( Frank McCourt Biography.com ; Frank McCourt ). His father Malachy was an
alcoholic ex IRA fighter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McCourt later decides to follow this advice, and by saving up, and through stealing, he manages to
pay for his trip (McCourt). Despite the debatable morality surrounding his methods, his assertiveness
and willingness to take action paid off and he got the improved lifestyle he sought for.
Throughout Angela s Ashes, the author takes a sarcastic and pessimistic approach to telling his
story. This is evidenced in the quote:
When I look back on my childhood I wonder how I survived at all. It was, of course, a miserable
childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while. Worse than the ordinary miserable
childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood.
(McCourt 11)
McCourt uses a comedic prose to lighten the mood in his story, which is in reality quite dark and
depressing. The main overarching conflict of Angela s Ashes is the author s struggles with poverty,
which he ultimately overcame. The closing statement of the memoir expresses his hope for the future:
I stand on the deck with the Wireless Officer looking at the lights of America twinkling. He says,
My God, that was a lovely night, Frank. Isn t this a great country
The Importance Of Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization which provides affordable reproductive care, currently
receives government funding. Those in need of affordable health care can go to PPFA for STI
treatment, pap smears, and prevention of unintended pregnancies. The problem arises in PPFA s
prevention of unintended pregnancies, particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the
public finds in the organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA s integrity and motives as
their controversial actions are exposed. Government funded healthcare should be easily accessible for
all people, but Planned Parenthood is not the organization for this. Instead, the government should
push its funds towards organizations whose practices are not controversial and still provide quality
health care.
Although Planned Parenthood provides other affordable health care services for men, women,
and children, many people find their service of abortion controversial and seek to defund them
specifically for the discontinuation of this practice. Abortion was legalized under the Roe vs
Wade case in 1973 and soon after, PPFA made it one of their available services so they could
provide maximum reproductive health care for all women. Since its legalization, abortion has taken
the lives of nearly sixty million children. Out of the sixty million, PPFA is responsible for 7.7
million (Number of Abortions). Defunding the organization would cause 1) an increase in birth
rates, 2) an increase in
Cork Game Strategy
On January 19, Mr. Courtney s students would take a classroom game to the next level. We
usually play the the game where you spell a word or try and shoot a cork at a target. That game
changed to just shooting the cork, but trying to find the best way to shoot it. We were posed with
the question, what is the best way to configure your hand and rubber band to shoot the cork at a
target eight feet away. There were few materials needed to conduct this experiment. All we used
was, a cork, rubber band, and a target. The cork was two inches high. The rubber band was three
inches long without being stretched. Last the target was about six feet above the ground. All these
materials were constants. This makes the experiment less complex. The only variable would be
how each person shot the cork. The next day everyone in the class was put into groups and we were
all told to just practice shooting the cork without collecting any data. After that we all compared the
best configurations we used within our own groups. Each group... Show more content on

we came together as a class to test the four best configurations from the four groups. Each group sent

in the final round each contestant had four try s to hit the target for each of the four configurations,

The Extent Of Personal Responsibility
The Extent of Personal Responsibility Taking place in two hemispheres from one another, the
plot to Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner and Phillip Roth s Nemesis have few common elements to
observe if one were to look strictly at the plot. However, looking deeper reveals that both novels
have startlingly similar elements and themes; ranging from fear, to a rejection of god. The most
significant theme in both of these novels is the concept of personal responsibility a concept that
defines Amir and Bucky and drives the way they act, in addition to influencing the plot of each
novel. Starting with protagonist Amir in Kite Runner, the pivotal point of responsibility is first
introduced when Hassan is raped by Assef following the conclusion of the kite runner tournament
that Amir won. This moment is the single most significant moment in the entire novel: I stopped
watching, turned away from the alley (67). This quote establishes the theme of personal
responsibility, and this very event would go on to define Amir throughout the entirety of the
novel, as Amir would go on to decades later to state: We had both betrayed the people who would
have given their lives for us (197). Another point is established with this, that being the question of
how far claiming responsibility go before being considered unreasonable? Looking at this
particular scene, one has to wonder, what could have Amir have been able to do in this situation?
While fleeing the scene is debated as a lack of
Who Is B. F. Skinner Operant Conditioning
INFLUENTIAL FIGURES IN PSYCHOLOGY
B.F Skinner
Have you ever thought about what will happen when a child makes a mistake and gets punished
for it? Next time when he tries again to do the same thing he will do less and less. This is a theory
that B.F. Skinner based his operations on, called operant conditioning. B.F. Skinner was a leading
behaviorist, who rejected introspection and studied how consequences shape behavior.
Introspection is the self observation of one s conscious. Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born on
March 20, 1904 in Susquehanna Depot, Pennsylvania. He grew up in an active household, his
mother being a tough and bright housewife and his father a hard working lawyer. As a child, B.F.
Skinner was active, outgoing, and intelligent, he loved school. After B.F. Skinner successfully
graduated from high school, he enrolled at Hamilton College in New York. Later on, he decided to
go back to school this time at Harvard University to study psychology.
B.F. Skinner had a wife and two daughters. One of the daughters was famous for being
experimented in her father s invention the Skinner box. The air crib, better known as the Skinner
box, is an invention inspired by Skinner s wife. It would keep the baby from crying by allowing the
temperature to be just right for the baby.
B.F. Skinner s main finding in psychology was the operant conditioning theory. Here the individual
is in the course of working in a situation where he or she is retreating in his or her own
Mass Surveillance and the Panopticon Analysis Essay
In Michael Foucault s Discipline and Punish , the late eighteen century English philosopher Jeremy
Bentham s model of Panopticon was illustrated as a metaphor for the contemporary technologies of
mass surveillance. Originally derived from the measures to control abnormal beings against the
spreading of a plague, the Panopticon is an architecture designed to induce power with a permanent
sense of visibility. With a tower in the center, surrounded by cells, the prisoners can be monitored
and watched at any given time from the central tower. The goal of this architectural plan was to strip
away any privacy and therefore create fear induced self regulation amongst the prisoners, with an
unverifiable gaze The prisoners can never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just a gaze. An inspecting gaze, a gaze which each individual under its weight will end by
interiorising to the point that he is his own overseer, each individual thus exercising this surveillance
over, and against, himself. A superb formula: power exercised continuously and for what turns out to
be a minimal cost. (Foucault) Despite the dehumanizing effect of Panopticon as an disciplinary
mechanism based on constant observation and examination with every movement supervised and all
events recorded. The Panopticon system as one of the most effective and economic models of
exercising power and control over an constantly increasing population, soon became a formula, wide
spread throughout our society. Along with the growing ethnology and capitalist economy, various
methods of Panopticon through mass surveillance soon earned it s place in numerous regimes,
becoming one of the most infinitely expandable Panopticon of the contemporary society. Schools,
factories, hospitals and prisons today resemble each other, they are fit into the format of a
panopticon structure, examining pupils, workers, patients and prisoners at any given time. When we
enter a building, make a phone call, purchase with a credit card, or visit a website, we are being
watched, if not recorded, analyzed. The increasing use of surveillance by commercial and
government entities caused the technology to become omnipresent in our lives. With the name of
