Alcohol Consumption Among Youth Is Not A New Issue Essay
1. Introduction
Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long standing
history of alcohol consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is also around the world,
the consumption of alcohol has baggage both good and bad. It is seen on a positive note as a
social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard down a bit and feel at ease in situations out of
their normal comfort zones, however to every story there is also a flip side, and this is the idea that
alcohol consumption is the cause of social harm.
These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An online article,
Contrary to belief, we may be losing binge from our drinking culture (2012) highlights the disparities
of views between those who are 50 years or older, and those I deem part of the youth of New Zealand
who are 30 years or younger. The views show that the older group believe that New Zealanders,
especially the younger demographic have a problem with alcohol consumption, however, those in
the younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink excessively, many argued
that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards to alcohol consumption.
This perceived social norm of excessive drinking highlights the need to further explore how as a
society we can change the social norm so excessive drinking is not an issue without stigmatizing a
particular segment of society.
This literature review, which is to explore
A Sphere Poem
In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and
developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and
personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver ,
Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem.
Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity.
The Petrarchan sonnet describes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it,
as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to
swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his
poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool,
in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a
metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands.
The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly
used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has
operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to
the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal
narrative voice within
Gods of Ancient Egypt Essay
Did you know that there were over 2,000 gods and goddesses in Ancient Egypt? Some gods had
the body of a human and the head of an animal. When I read that, I was shocked! I would ve never
guessed that there would be so many gods in Egypt. In addition, I found the idea of an animal head
stuck to a human body disgusting! I just didn t believe this, so I decided to find out for myself.
The Ancient Egyptian were polytheistic most of the time, which means that they believed in
multiple gods. When Akhenaten was pharaoh, the Egyptians were monotheistic, meaning they
worshiped only one god. He ended the worship of other gods and claimed that Aten, the lord of all
was the only god in Egypt. The Egyptians didn t like this idea, so on their own, ... Show more content

Geb s laugh was said to be the cause of earthquakes. As the Earth god one of his jobs were to guide
the dead to the underworld. He is shown wearing the crown of northern or southern Egypt.
Sometimes, he is shown with green skin to show the vegetation, but other times, he has dark skin to
represent the fertile soil of Ancient Egypt. In pictures Geb is leaning on an elbow with one knee up.
He lies under the air (Shu) and the sky (Nut).
Geb s son, Osiris, was the god of afterlife. He was murdered by his own brother Seth, which they
think was the cause of the droughts, but his miraculous rebirth caused the flooding of the Nile
valley. He was married to his sister Isis and had a son named Horus. Osiris also had another sister,
Nephthys. It was said that Osiris was the one who brought civilization to the ancient Egyptian. He
left and showed the Egyptians many things, but while he was gone Seth planned to kill him. His
plan worked, he killed Osiris and threw him into the Nile River, but Isis found his body only to let
Seth rip it into 14 pieces. Isis and Nephthys worked together and found every piece except one,
which was eaten by the Nile fish. Isis recovered him just long enough to have Horus, which would
be the future king of Egypt.
Isis was the goddess of magic. She was the sister of Nephthys, Seth, and Osiris. She was the
daughter of Nut and Geb, and had a child named Horus with Osiris. She has the crown of the North
and south. When her husband, Osiris was
Staphylococcus Aureus ( Mrsa )
Introduction

Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram positive coccal bacterium which is estimated to have colonised 20
30% of the human population.1,2,3 S. aureus is normally found in the anterior nares and mucous
membranes of these individuals. For the majority, this is not a problem as these people are
colonised, not infected.2,3 However S. aureus is an opportunistic pathogen and if it contaminates a
breach in the skin or mucous membranes, it can go on to infect any tissue in the body.3 Infection
may lead to serious life threatening diseases such as pneumonia.4 Over time strains of S. aureus
were able to develop resistance to antibiotics, resulting in strains known as methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
1.1 A brief history
Before the discovery of penicillin, infection with S. aureus had a fatality rate of approximately 70%.
After penicillins discovery and development, treatment of S. aureus infections became routine
resulting in the death rate falling to 25%.5 However, penicillin use provided an inadvertent selection
pressure which resulted in the bacteria mutating and becoming resistant to its effects. The penicillin
resistant S. aureus strains produced enzymes known as penicillinases which break penicillin down.
In 1959, the antibiotic methicillin was developed to battle penicillin resistant S. aureus infections. At
first it was effective, but with increasing use of methicillin S. aureus once again acquired resistance
through the process of natural selection
Puerto Rican Lifestyles
Being Puerto Rican means more to me than just food but that s where it all begins sitting at a table
surrounded by loving, funny, loud family members. We love our food, music, family and religion.
Being part of a small island, in this world with the biggest heart, brings me joy. When you are around
any Puerto Rican you feel a part of the community instantly.
There is no special occasion that comes to mind because we always have gatherings for everything.
When we get together we eat, drink, dance, just being together to have a great time. Any occasion

NASA Budget Cuts
In October 4, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever man made satellite. It was named
Sputnik 1; it weighed 183 pounds and orbited earth in 98 hours. In fear or Russian having air
superiority, President Eisenhower founded the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) in July of 1958. In response to the Soviet Union.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is one of the programs that the
government has decided it cannot continue to finance at its current rates, and the money being put
into NASA has been cut back. This is definitely not a smart place to make spending cuts and, at
least for the near future, this trend of lessened government support needs to be reversed. By using
budget cuts as a possible solution to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They claim they need every penny they can get in these rough times. The economy is doing
poorly, and government money is better spent elsewhere, and apparently they feel that government
money would be better spent outside of programs like NASA. However, there are many sources
that directly counter this opinion, claiming that NASA is an investment to stimulate the economy,
and not just money being shot into space . The cost of NASA, as is true of almost any
government agency, is worth it, because it can benefit the economy directly through the purchase
of goods and creation of jobs, and indirectly by inspiring people in industries that spawn from
invented technologies or materials. Many companies have gone on to be very successful private
businesses after working with materials invented by NASA. The Tempur Pedic mattress company
got its start when NASA scientists wanted to provide comfortable seating for pilots that needed to
remain in one position for a long time. There are many cases like these in which niches have been
created for companies due to progress made at
Advantages Of Granger Caausity Test
3. Methods and data
Granger causality test (Granger 1969) has been generally used to find the causality relationship
between variables. This test told that if past values of a variable (y) significantly contribute to
forecast the future value of another variable (x) then y is said to Granger cause x. Conversely, if
past values of x statistically improve the prediction of y, then we can conclude that x Granger
causes y (ibid). This paper also uses the tool of the Granger causality test to examine the causality
relationship between SDP and EC. This paper used (Oxley and Greasley1998), a three stage
procedure to test the direction of causality which is also used by (Ghosh, S., 2002). The first step is
to tests the order of integration of the variables ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that even if SDP and EC are individually non stationary but their combined effect is
stationary that is they are co integrated. Further implies that there is long run relationship between
SDP and EC in Assam. The long run relationship among the variables merely shows the degree of
association, but we cannot say the direction of the relationship that is whether SDP causes EC or
EC causes SDP. So, we have used Granger causality tests to examine the direction of linkage among
the variables. But for a VAR system with co integrated variables the Granger causality test must be
conducted in a vector error correction model (VECM) setting (Greene 2008). However, the absence
of residual serial correlation, absence of heteroskedasticity of the individual equations has also
confirmed the correct order of VECM selection. Table3 shows the result of Granger causality
Key Elements Of Gothic Horror Literature
Feelings of fear, shock, and utter abhorrence are key elements in Gothic horror literature that have
frightened readers since the eighteenth century. American writer, editor, critic, and poet, Edgar
Allan Poe became a highly influential figure in the world of literature and is one of the first
writers to develop this genre of fiction and horror. In Poe s popular short stories The Fall of the
House of Usherand The Tell Tale Heart, Poe can be described as a Gothic writer by exploring themes
of death and darkness, madness and helplessness, supernaturalism and setting and architecture, in
order to reverse the norms of rationality as illogical and unexplainable events generate fear in the
reader.
For many centuries, people have had a morbid desire to explore the realms of death and darkness;
As a result, death and murder became a staple in Gothic writing and a key feature in many of Poe
s stories. Additionally, death is a dominant theme in The Tell Tale Heart as the narrator resolves to
murder his victim because he is afraid of the old man s eyes resembl[ing] that of a vulture (138).
In a gruesome manner, the narrator suffocates the old man with a mattress, dismembers his body,
and proceeds to hide the remains under the floorboards. In the Gothic age, one of the greatest fears
was anything that threatens reason; Consequently, Poe creates this horrid murder as it highlights
non rational and transgressive behavior generating terror and suspense. Furthermore, in The Fall of
the House of Usher, Madeline s arrives in her violent and now final death agonies (40) to attack
her brother, Roderick, and he dies of fear. This violent attack is frightening as Madeline s ghostly
appearance depicts the illogical and uncanny, creating an atmosphere of horror and terror. By
portraying feelings of discomfort, thrill, and morbidity for his readers, Poe successfully conveys
major Gothic elements in his stories.

Poe is not only famous for featuring dark themes such as death and murder, he also alludes
traditional Gothic elements of madness and helplessness through his psychologically unstable
characters and macabre events. The paranoid, fixated, and mad narrator in The Tell Tale Heart is
obsessed with his plan to
The Key Verses And Passages That Tell Us More
Introduction Many people, especially Christians know of the book of John for its famous verse
found in chapter 3 verse 16, For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, so that
everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life (NIB, Pg.1912). But there is
far more to the fourth Gospelthat gives us an in depth culture of people known as the Johannine
Community.

Thesis In order to better understand the Fourth Gospel in the Holy Scriptures, I am going to first
give a brief description of the authorship, setting, and date in which this was said to have been
written. Second, I will explain the purpose or context in which this gospel was written. Third, I will
discuss key verses and passages that tell us more in depth about Jesus. Last and finally, I will my
own questions, thoughts, and observation of the Gospel of John. Last and finally.

Background When discussing the time period in which this piece was actually written, it is
important to understand that it was written before the epistles. According to many scholars such as
Charles H. Talbert, the book of John was written either after or around the same time as the letters
1, 2, 3 of John (Talbert, pg.4). According to Talbert, the text cannot be dated much later than 100
AD. There are fragments from Chapter 18:31 33 that seem to be dated back to as early as second
century, or 125 AD (Talbert, Pg. 1917). When it comes to the authorship of the text, it is also said to
be unknown, although

of this novelization. I am quite honored to share both my review and my interview with everyone
today.

RH: Why did you decide to become a writer? What kind of training have you had for writing?

CC: I have been a voracious reader since I was very young, and I ve written for as long as I can
remember. I had notebooks filled with handwritten stuff all through high school. I ve always been
a romance fan as well, so publishing in the genre seemed like a natural choice for me. I ve been an

I m actually published under my spicy pen name, Ginny Glass, with Harlequin s Carina Press. I sold
my first book to the imprint back in 2009, and was a launch author with Carina. I have eight titles

How did you get involved with Hallmark Publishing?

I m so fortunate to be involved in a writer s forum that allowed me to connect with Stacey Donovan,
the director of Hallmark Publishing. Stacey and I worked together on editing a few Hallmark
projects, and the opportunity came up to novelize one of the movies. I jumped at the chance!

Before writing The Perfect Catch, were you a Hallmark fan? Had you seen the movie?

I love Hallmark. I m a huge Hallmark fan! Not just the romances, either. I love the mysteries. I hadn
t seen The Perfect Catch, but it s become one of my favorites. I think the cast has such great
chemistry.
