Food Waste In Early America
Background
People have been wasting food from the time humans started to exist. Everyone needs to eat, but
people don t necessarily consume everything that is on their plate. Food waste, however, is a
bigger problem than ever before, with people from the middle and upper class having a great
abundance of food, while others are starving to death all over the world. Stopping food waste is
important, since it leads to many environmental problems, while increasing the size of our landfills.
Food and organic waste is a problem in our world, today and in the past.
The problem of food waste is that the waste can lead to environmental problems when left
unattended. This occurs the most often in landfills, where there is so much garbage, not all areas ...

Estonia is a country in northern Europe, and is one of the countries in the European Union (EU).
Estonia has been drastically reducing their food waste in the past several years, taking several
measures to do so. According to Zero Waste Europe, an environmental organization stationed in
Europe, ... the best performing [country] in Europe when it comes to waste avoidance and
recycling [is] Estonia... Estonia, the best EU performer, generates 279 kg [of food waste] per
person, and recycles 40% of it leaving 167 kg to be disposed of ( And the Best Waste Performing

Estonia was able to bring down the overall waste produced. Not only that, but Estonia has changed
their recycling policies, not recycling at all until recently (Levitan). If other countries follow Estonia
s footsteps, they may also be able to substantially reduce organic
Pros And Cons Of Leaving Omelas
If I had the option to stay or leave Omelas, I would choose to stay and make plans for the future of
the city to keep everyone happy instead of on the path to nowhere. Although it is unquestionably
hard to even think about the way LeGuin describes the awful truth of a 10 year old child
suffering from the lack of food and love being kept in a dark, dirty basement room. The only food
he gets is a half bowl of corn meal per day and lying around on its own excrement for the rest of
the day. It s impossible for me to imagine this little child wretched in this awful situation, but what
could I do as a citizen to help this child to get out from that ruined place? I am going to stay to
make a change in the disaster that Omelas was facing that days,
Diversity In The Classroom
Maya Angelou once said, It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there
is beauty and there is strength. When we send our children to school, they are segregated based on
the letter D (diversity, disabled, dysfunction), showing the young that not all children can enjoy the
same educational opportunities that they are provided in schools. This is due to a controversial topic
among teachers and parents known as inclusion. It s time we put an end to this separation and bring
inclusive classrooms to all schools. Inclusion secures opportunities for students with disabilities to
learn alongside their non disabled peers in general educationclassrooms. Classrooms that establish a
healthy inclusive environment benefits... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their minds spinning with the thought that their children will be brushed to the side and not given
the same attention, while teacher fear they become frazzled. They tend to believe that children
with disabilities are uneducable or are a burden on the mainstream educational system. Segregating
students with disabilities can lead to a greater gap between society and themselves, a situation that
people with disabilities face daily. But imagine the parents of the children who are not given the
same educational opportunities, parents of disabled students understand better than anyone, the
fears, and struggles that come into teaching their children. In America nearly 40 percent of
children with disabilities do not graduate (Diamont, 2015). Low expectations and lack of
discipline are likely to play a major key. Special Education classes also do not provide any form of
transition between a sheltered school environment and the real world. Not being able to conduct
themselves in social situations or proper ways of handling overwhelming stress in a job field, these
all of potentially disastrous results. Oleta Garrett Fitzgerald, director of the Children s Defense Fund
s Southern Regional Office, stated: Young people who generally end up in trouble were not prepared
from the beginning educationally, the biggest reasons students end up in the corrections system is
school failure. (Mader,
Essay on A Standard Guide in Bond Investments
A Standard Guide in Bond Investments Millions of Americans are cautious as to how they invest
their money or where they should invest their money; whether it s to invest in real estate, stocks, and
mutual funds; or take a safer approach by choosing a conservative options and invest in bonds. While
establishing their financial planning, most American chose to invest in stocks and mutual funds
because of the potential in hope of a larger return for their investment. Whereas, conservative bonds
such as government and corporate bonds offer lots of potential and investment growth in the long
run. Though there are risk and safety associated with many investments, the key is to decide how
much risk are involved, and research the quality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conservative Investment Options: Bonds Why invest in Bonds? Corporate and Government
Bonds are no substitute for stocks, which in spite of the current predicament in the market are
probably still the best investment for the long haul. However, bonds are a good option for the
conservative investors. Bonds is a type of security that functions like a loan, relatively in their best
form are basically IOU s receipts for money borrowed from the investor, they are issued by private
companies, municipalities, or government agencies. They bind the issuing organization to a fixed
amount on the maturity date, which is set when the instrument is issued (Kiplinger s Personal
Finance, 2003, p.1). Types of Government Bonds and Debt Securities Bonds usually come in a
variety of forms with each having its own individual benefits, risks and tax considerations.
Normally most bonds falls into four general categories: corporate, government, government agencies
and municipal (Ameriprise, 2008). Meanwhile, government bonds are issued by the U.S. treasury
and backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government where they will repay a specified
amount of money, along with interest. Treasury Bills (T bill) is a short term government security
with maturities that are sold at a discount at their face value with a minimum unit of $1,000 and sold
What Is My Swim Career Essay
My Swim Career; My Life s Motivation.
If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren t willing to do. Michael
Phelps.
When I think of my swim career, it s these words spoken by Michael Phelps that I feel most sum
up my journey with this incredible sport. My swim career is not a story that boasts of incredible
talent or greatness, but rather one of how my constant sacrifice for the sport I love has contributed
greatly to the place I hold in my swim career today.
When I was young, my mom signed me up to a swim course. In Egypt sports are practiced in a form

Theory of Mind and Executive Function
Theory of Mind and the Executive Function Theory of mind (ToM) is the specific ability to
attribute mental states to oneself and to others (Pellicano, 2007, p. 974). Attributing mental states
essentially allows one to read another s body language and therefore predicts their behavior. This is
important in the socialization of a child, something that an autistic child struggles with. Baron
Cohen et al. (2000) believe the term ToM is synonymous with social intelligence. The executive
function (EF) is a set of functions thought to be necessary for flexible, future oriented behavior,
especially in novel circumstances (Pellicano, 2007, p. 974). The executive function is involved in
many aspects of development, including working memory, the ability to plan effectively, and
flexibility in focusing one s attention to different people and objects. In a young child s
development, EF and ToM play a significant role. There are contradicting theories about which
aspect affects the other, but it appears that the general belief is that together, they have an affect and
that the two functions feed off of each (Pellicano, 2007). Pellicano (2007) found that in autistic
children, when the EF is impaired, ToM is not intact. In other words, autistic children cannot read
other s body language if they have an impairment in their EF. Additionally, because of this
impairment, they show an inability to be flexible, use their working memory, or plan for the future
(Pellicano, 2007). One of the

Summary Of Juana Ines s You Foolish Men
In her writing, we see Juana did not detest romance, but the possessive demeaner men took on and
as previously discussed she was not fond of being controlled. Since I m Condemned criticizes men
that take on this behavior similarly to the way You Foolish Men berates the hypocritical insults and
indecisiveness of men.
Juana Ines never married, but before becoming a nun, her eclectic personality and outspokenness
attracted the attention of many admirers. Fabio , a recurring character in Ines s work, is an
amalgamation of the characteristics that she found despicable in the men around her. The first stanza
sets the stage for Ines s Dramatic monologue as a confession. She sounds resigned and complacent
to being condemned to death by Fabio s decree, however she is not amused in the slightest and
calls the sentencing wrathful or wild. In line five, she goes on to say that there is no criminal so
guilty as to be denied confession. This is a clear example of what Juana Ines was praised for,
playing the system against itself with her rhetoric and wit. In this time women were preferred to be
kept silent, by bringing in the argument of confession, a staple of Catholicism, she has given herself
a platform to speak that the men cannot deny without being perceived as Sacrilegious.
The seventh line can be interpreted in few ways: either it is referring to Fabio s education
therefore higher status or it suggests gossip relating to Juana Ines. Whatever the case may be it
causes Fabio to take offence at De La Cruz chest. Chests, here, refers to gender; Juana is asking if
people are more willing to believe in him because he is a man than the established truth that many
others have experienced. She asks Fabio why he is able to trust the eyes of others, but not his
own. She assures him that this gossip will get her killed. In line seventeen the tone in the writing
begins to change from a dramatic rebuttal to subtle sarcastic wit. To illustrate how outrageous she
sees Fabio s anger, Ines comes up with increasingly overdone punishments to normal interactions
with other men. She asks to be killed if she has looked at someone else s eyes, to never be happy if
she looks at any other with happiness, and to have her soul chased
Dan Buettner s Chapter On Singapore
Dan Buettner s chapter on Singapore was very interesting, especially when comparing it to our
American way of life. At first glance the idea of living in a country with very strict laws, such as
public canings for what we would call a minor offense, was mind blowing to me. How could this be
one of the happiest places in the world? Upon further study my mind was changed to some degree,
in fact I could see myself visiting there some day, but only have studing on the most current laws. I
think the United Stateswould be better off if we as a nation thought more about how our individual
actions affected those around us. If you were to visit Singapore, it is highly advised that you first
take time and review both their customs and strict laws. This country is not like any other country
you have been to before. From the time you arrive at Changi International Airport, this difference
is very apparent. You will see go through customs and or immigration, normal and typical when
arriving to a new country, but that is where the similarities end. You will see numerous signs
warning you of the public laws, that you are expected to obey without question. No photography,
smoking, or gum chewing is allowed (Buettner, 2011, p. 75). Think for a minute how odd this
might be. You have just arrived as a visitor and you cannot chew gum and you are not allowed to
take photographs!? After some further research I have found that this law of gum chewing has been
modified to some degree.
Canadian Magazine Globalization
Globalization, which is the international integrations of people, economics, and culture, has changed
the world. Cultural globalization is a phenomenon by which the experience of everyday life, as
influenced by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, reflects a standardization of cultural
expressions (Watson 2016, para.1). Many people believe that their culture is under fire by cultural
globalizationand the birth of the new global village. One such example of this is the case of the
Canadian Magazine Dispute of the 1990 s.
Canada believes magazines to be an integral part of their culture and media. The Canadian
government, in an effort to protect this aspect of its culture, began imposing tariffs on foreign
magazines. This began in the 1920 s and in the 60 s began prohibiting split run editions of foreign
magazines (The Levin Institute 2016, para.3). In the 90 s, and the boom in information technology,
this all came to a head. American publishers began publishing split run editions with some Canadian
content. They were printed in Canada via electronic transmission. Canada, who was angered over
this loophole and in an effort to protect its magazine industry, raised the ... Show more content on

To what extent do you think the government of Canada was pressured to seek to protect its market
because of financial interests of the Canadian magazine industry? As I stated in the last question, the
Canadian domestic magazine market is considerably small compared to the foreign market. With the
heavy push of American magazines due to the information technology boom, I believed that the
Canadian magazine publishers were indeed worried that they might be shut out of their market
completely especially since so much of the magazine industry seems to have been controlled by
foreign publishers. I believe the Canadian publishers probably lobbied hard to ensure their
government increased tariffs and taxes on foreign magazines and foreign
The Ability To Read
The ability to read is not just a skill, but a key to the door of life. Reading is powerful in that it
can transport, transform and tailor a reader s mind in millions of ways. I read to imagine, to learn,
and experience both new and exciting things. Reading uplifts, educates, and armors me to live a
better life. My generation, however, is not one of readers. My generation has been enticed by the
aura of technology, an increasing problem I see overlooked.
It seems my friends long ago traded the trusty comfort of a book to the trendy glamour of the
screen. Scorning now comes for having phones out in class, rather than hiding an open book under
the desk. I see a culture so fixated on technology, but to what end? Electronic screens and technical
The Human Dimension Of The Army
The Human Dimension is a concept that the Army has been looking into over the past years as the
dynamics have changed. Soldiers and DOD Civilians make up today s fighting force. As such, it is
important to look at the whole person. The purpose of the whole person concept is to notice how our
cognitive, physical, social and spiritual attributes not only effect the Army, but how it will shape the
future of our fighting forces.
Cognitive
The way each individual learns is imperative to understand as not everyone learns using the same
methods or at the same rate as their counterpart. It is readily believed that the most common way of
retaining information is by repetition. However, just as there are different ways to approach basic
math, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it has been observed that it is a human need, not just a desire, that we have spiritual base. Even as
civilizations have been discovered one thing that was consistent was that they had a type of religion

has a belief in the intangible or unexplainable. In a study students who had strong religious
correlations also had higher positive feelings, lower levels of depression, and were better equipped
at handling stress (Borchard, n.d.). Knowing how spirituality effects Soldiers and DOD Civilians
will be important to the Army as they progress into the future; for it too is an ever changing solution
