Ambition and Motivation in Fifth Business
Thwarted love. Ambition. Guilt. Sexuality. Fifth Business is rife with these life lessons. However,
the most dominant themes in the novel are ambition and motivation. It is well known that excessive
ambition and motivation can destroy someone, but, used correctly, can skyrocket someone to
happiness, as in the case of Dunstan Ramsey, Percy Staunton, and Paul Dempster. These two
qualities not only give these characters the will to keep on living, but also enable them to rise above
the masses during the Great Depression. Right in the beginning of the novel, Dunstan displays his
superior motivation and ambition through his learning of juvenile magic.

During one of his habitual browsings of the local library in his quest to become a ... Show more

This instance of heroic motivation shows how motivation can be used to accomplish anything from
doing well on an essay to saving a life.
The third and final instance of how motivation and ambition affect our lives begins with Dunstan
ducking a snowball, and that snowball hitting Ms. Dempster. For weeks afterwards, Dunstan is
consumed with guilt, and all through the rest of his life, that feeling never completely goes away. It
can be argued that Dunstan spends a large portion of his life trying to atone for what he has done.
He visits Ms. Dempster in the asylum numerous times and he periodically checks up on her son. The
feeling of guilt can be a powerful motivator, and this force is one that Dunstan succumbs to. As he
spends his life trying to atone for something that was not his fault, we realize that although guilt is a
natural emotion, we should not allow it to dictate our actions without interference from our logic.
Dunstan s life is a classic tribute to the forces of motivation and ambition. If he had lacked these
qualities, he would not only be a much less interesting character than he became, but there is a good
possibility that he would be dead. His life shows us that without motivation and ambition. We would
never accomplish anything.

Throughout the Great Depression, there were very few who were able to maintain their previous
Aspects of a Good Game
Games have been enjoyed for generations, whether they are board games, computer games or
console games. However, to succeed in making a good game, it must be enjoyable and must include
many different aspects. Through researching, several of the most common and important aspects
that a game should have to include to be a good gamehave been found. The most regularly
mentioned aspects of what makes a good game are:
Challenge/Reward
Freedom
Experience
Place/Feel
Story
Challenge/Reward
Challenge should be implemented in every game to make it more exciting and engage the player
more. They should not be impossible although should be difficult enough to make the player think
and construct a strategy or method to surpass them. Challenge should often come with a reward for
completing them so that the player will feel more motivated to complete them.
Rather than just points, money etc. as rewards; rewards such as new abilities, a new part of the
map to explore, a new item or even a new task can be given. These rewards are motivating and also
help to keep the player enjoying the game through side quests/challenges, instead of just playing the
game to win.
Freedom
Freedom includes the range of different choices and paths that can be made to complete an objective.
For example, going through the front door can attract a lot of attention while the side door will not.
You can choose whether you want a huge gunfight between you and the enemy or rather take a
stealthy approach.
Lillian Hellman s Essay Pentimento
Lillian Hellman s particular usage of certain words and diction creates a new atmosphere in her story
Pentimento . Hellman s usage of these words creates sentimentality within the story through the
effect of the words developing an innocent tone. Many words throughout the story contribute to the
effect because it connects the audience to the author. If these words were replaced with others, then
the intended tone of the author would be significantly different compared to Lillian Hellmans sad, yet
innocently developing perspective and tone. Lillian Hellman s essay Pentimento has a different
effect compared to other essays. Her effect on her essay is designed to show the loss of innocence
and the effects of war. I believe that Lillian Hellman... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Childhood is less clear to me than to many people (Hellman 1). Hellman utilizes the word
childhood to show her mature reminiscence of her life. This introduction already starts the mature
perspective and the evident loss of childlike purity. I know when it is to be trusted and when
some dream or fantasy entered on the life, and the dream, the need of dream, led to distortion of
what happened. (Hellman 8 10). In Lillian Hellman s opening remark of her second paragraph,
she keeps using the word dream. This word develops the effect of a childlike desire and wish in her
story. And so I know early that the rampage angers of an only child were distorted nightmares of
reality (Hellman 10 12). Another important word Lillian uses is distortion. Distortion develops her
desired effect towards the audience. Using the word distorted, the reader would feel compassion or
understanding for the child in her story that experiences the distortion. The use of ambitious words
like dream and distortion shows the audience of the main character s mature attempts to understand
the childlike innocence she losses due to experiencing
Cord Blood Research Paper
Cord Blood Banking is now a huge epidemic nationally. What was once considered to be medical
waste is now what is considered a medical breakthrough. Cord blood is stored in two types of banks,
both having their benefits and negative aspects. There are many benefits and positive aspects that
accompany the banking cord blood. Many of these benefits include but are not limited to the
treatment of many life threatening diseases and disorders such as cerebral palsy and childhood
cancer such as leukemia. With positives benefits there also come negative aspects. Many of these
include who can receive the transplant, the cost of cord blood, the simple fact that the child who the
blood came from may never be able to receive that cord blood, and also... Show more content on

Researchers have discovered that it is actually harder for adults to be treated with cord blood than
bone marrow. Children usually receive one unit of cord blood because their small bodies only
need a small amount. Adults however need more than the one unit of blood that children receive
because their bodies are so much bigger. According to eurostemcells.org there are serious
complications of receiveing to few of stem cells. A stem cell transplant containing not enough
stem cells may fail or could lead to slow creation of new blood in the body. Doctors have found
that if they use two units of cord blood, the transplant will work. When the cord blood is being
collected, each newborn only can provide one unit of blood, so when someone needs to receive
more than one unit, doctors have to find an almost identical match. There are also many
controversies on whether or not cord blood should be collected and banked. Many children s cord
blood can t be used by the child who donated it. The cord blood may be contaminated with cells
that made that child sick. According to Parent s Magazine Both the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued
statements in the late 1990s opposing the use of for profit banks and criticizing their marketing
tactics. Instead, they recommended that parents donate cord blood to public banks, which make it
available for free to anyone who
Woodrow Wilson Beliefs
As a leader, Woodrow Wilson served as President from 1913 to 1921 as our country s 28th
president. He was a progressive President, a leader during the great war, placed policies and had a
role in forging peace of World War I. Wilson furthermore, issued the Fourteen Points, had a role at
Versailles, and used his efforts to get the treaty ratified in the United States. As a progressive
president, Woodrow Wilsonhas concerns about our country and War that American neutrality was
proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson when in 1914 the war broke out. In May of 1915, the
Lusitania, a British passenger liner, was taken out by a German submarine. This action killed 1,198
on board, of that, 124 were Americans. Wilson composed a note of protest
Analysis Of The Poem The Death Of Death
The combination of how the subject matter is conveyed by the narrator, and the emotions which are
built through poetic devices contribute to constructing the message the author intended for each
poem. Throughout Drummer Hodge, Hardy appears to express the idea that dying in battle is no
way to achieve immortality through the memory of others, as every deathis unnecessary and soon
forgotten to the land. He frequently infers that Hodge is consumed by the landscape, becoming a
part of it as he slowly loses everything he was. Hardy reinforces this idea that a soldiers death is
meaningless and not at all remembered, by cleverly turning the phrase, being laid to rest, which
indicates the care and effort put into burring the deceased, into one which demonstrates the
meaninglessness of his death. This can be seen in the first line of the poem, They throw in
Drummer Hodge, to rest, where he is not laid to rest, but thrown illustrating the fact that the soldier
is totally disregarded and not remembered in any significant way. Brooke however, constructs a
romanticized message of remembrance and honour for the soldier. The Soldier seems to convey the
message that death in battle is an honourable death, which serves to repay a man s homeland for all
it has given him, an action for which, he will be remembered. He continually refers to the
transformation which occurs upon a soldier s death, entailing the change of the very soil he falls on,
to English soil. This implication
Gender Roles Peter Pan
Gender Roles in Peter Pan J. M. Barrie s Peter Pan tells the story of the boy who never grew up.
Barrie paints Peter as an extraordinary character living in a mystical world called Neverland, flying
through the air, and fighting villainous pirates. He is also the boy who takes a young girl named
Wendy from England back to Neverlandwith him. The interaction and interdependence of Barrie s
two characters, Peter and Wendy, symbolize and spread cultural genderstereotypes by mirroring the
stereotypes embodied by the adult characters in the story Mr. and Mrs. Darling and by reflecting the
ideas of gender roles of the time and foreshadowing the children s understanding of reality and
expectations, as well as their eventual maturation.
Wendy s father, Mr. Darling, sets the prime example for adult male stereotype. Barrie characterizes
him as the breadwinner of the Darling family and a proud businessman. Throughout Barrie s insight
into his character, the reader observes him insist upon respect and obedience from his children and
wife; and even the family dog. In one instance, Mr. Darling even boasts to Wendy that his wife,
Mrs. Darling, not only loves him, but more importantly, respects him. This attitude as displayed by
the character of Mr. Darling as the most prominent adult male influence can be argued to be
associated with the male stereotype in many ways. Mr. Darling s character in the text supports the
culturally stereotypical view of the male gender as the

Persuasive Speech On Animals In Zoo
Albert Einstein once said: Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of
compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty. Ladies and
gentlemen, Today, I stand before you to address the growing issue of animals being imprisoned.
Put yourself in the shoes of the animal; can you imagine being locked up in a cage, eating, sleeping
and excreting in the same place every day? Well, animals in zoos are forced to!

Can we really say that animals in zoos, enjoy being taken away from their parents and natural
habitats? The answer to that question is No! . Did you know that tigers and lions have nearly
eighteen thousand times less space in a zoo than they do in their natural habitat and polar bears ...

In zoos, animals have no possible ways to defend themselves or escape from dangerous situations.
In many cases, animals in zoos have been poisoned, starved or even burned in fires! A recent
example on May 28, 2016 was where an animal was killed in the Cincinnati zoo was the shooting
of the gorilla Harambe . In this incident, an irresponsible parent was not looking after her child and
the child climbed into the enclosure. The gorilla was then shot in order to save the child. Another
major incident dates back to the Hurricane Katrina. Here, the employees were forced to leave as the
power failed which led to over 10,000 aquatic animals being killed.

Animals should be given the freedom they deserve. They should not be held captive in zoos and
we can help stop this insanity. If people stop buying tickets to look at imprisoned animals, zoos will
be forced to stop imprisoning and breeding wild animals. There are many better ways of studying an
animal, such as looking up about it online, or even watching an animal documentary which shows
the animal in its natural habitat, with its natural behavior. The animals need to be happy to live the
life they were put on earth
