Comparing My Arkansas And Langston Hughes
The two poems I have chosen are My Arkansas by Maya Angelou and Dream Variations by Langston
Hughes. These two poems share the same theme of the separation between the races. Both poems
were written during a period of time where segregation was a great problem throughout the United
States. Each poem opens your mind to the thought that discrimination is a greatly powerful subject.
Each poem has it s own approach to the cause, but still the same theme.
My Arkansas was written by poet Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou was born on April 4th, 1928, in St.
Louis. Angelou later moved to Stamps, Arkansas. Angelou grew up in a segregated town during the
1930 s and 1940 s. Angelou experienced the racial discrimination that was the legally enforced way
of life in the American South. Arkansas represented a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James Mercer Langston Hughes was born February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. Hughes s work
often spoke about the lives of ordinary black people. Hughes concern for justice drove him to write
in a number of literary genres, including poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and essays. Hughes
was a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance, an artistic movement of the 1920s and 1930s.
Many believe that Hughes was one of greatest writers, novelists, poets, during the Harlem
Renaissance. Dream Variations is his dream to live in a world where what a man is able to do is
not determined by the color of his skin. In the first stanza the poem begins with the ideas of hope
and freedom the author has. While reading I sensed the authors ease, peace, rest and a sense of
hope for some place in the sun (924) In the second stanza the ideas and pace of the poem which
had first showed are now less dream like. His second dream is after a long hard day at work. Now
his dream takes a rest under a tree and remains unfulfilled. Langston Hughes is simply saying that
his dream is to dance during the day, and to rest at
The Negative Effects Of Homework In Elementary Education
Homework has been a topic of conversation in elementary education for the majority of last decade,
the pros and cons have been argued and researched time and time again. While most professionals in
the field agree that homework is needed and helpful in middle and high school, when it comes to
younger grades the information strongly shows that it is a waste of time. At its core homeworkhas
two possible effects in the home. Homework can be seen as a rule over parents from the school to
manage their children s time outside of school or as a way to inform parents on what their children
are currently and allow them participation in their children s education(Wright). Around the time
leading up to World War One the Ladies Home Journal began advocating for an end to homework
for all children under the age of fifteen. The change continued in 1901 when California passed a
law abolishing all homework for grade levels one through eight. After the launch of Sputnik, a pro
homework movement began calling for heavier student work loads in hopes to keep students up to
par with their russian counterparts. The movement was revised as researches in the late 1960 s as
they observed the amount of stress put onto students by homework. American schools began
reporting falling test scores and lower overall performance of students in the 1980 s, which lead to a
rise of the use of homework once again. During this time the US Department of Education released a
pamphlet, in which they claimed
Rocky 1976
Sports films are one of the most common genres in the movie industry. They usually have a
simple plot leading to a huge sporting event. There are several different ways to write a sports
story: sports, biography, comedy, drama, or even family movies. The 1976 film Rocky is an
excellent example of a sports drama. A sports drama incorporates dramatic elements into a sports
storyline. 1 Rocky is a classic sports drama. It influenced the filmindustry through its success,
cinematography, and plot. Rocky changed the film industry through its success. The movie won a
Golden Globe award in 1977 for Best Motion Picture (Drama). This showed the Rocky really was
the best movie in its genre at that time. It is also believed by critics to be... Show more content on

This created a sense of realism that filmmakers try to copy to this day. With such a low budget,
Alvidsen had to make do with what he had so he was forced to film a small group of people
crowded together multiple times to create the feeling of a large crowd. He also had to ask
Stallone to re write some scenes because of their lack of funds for extras and equipment. This
acted as a way to show how gritty and raw this story really was. Due to the low budget of the film;
Alvidsen had to make do with the resources they had and then incorporated the situation into the
plot of the film. It made the film very realistic and believable. For example, the ice rink scene was
supposed to have a crowded rink. But, they couldn t afford all the extras so they had to change
the script, and it became a closed rink in which the camera stayed focused on only Rocky and
Adrian the whole time. Rocky influenced the film industry through its plot. The main plot of Rocky
is the main character s desire to make his or her life better. This theme is one of the most common
themes in films. Rocky s effect on this type of theme was monumental though because it was one of
the first of its kind to be made with a small budget, unknown cast, and limited resources. This proves
that this film is unique by showing how differently the director and actors
The Business World Of 21st Century
As Waldkirch (2008) stated the political problem which underlies the discussion of the principles for
managing corporations has existed for only about 150 years. Chandler (1977) emphasised that during
this period of time, society has witnessed the appearance and the spreading of organisations. In
traditional view, the shareholders were the main stakeholders in the company. This traditional view
has started to be challenged in the late 20th century. Freeman (2010) stated that the business world of
21st century has undergone dramatic change .
In corporate governance theory, there are mainly two kinds of arguments. The first one is that a firm
should focus on the shareholder wealth maximisation, which is called theory of shareholder. This
one might be considered as the traditional approach. The other one is that a company should focus
on not only the interest of shareholders, but also employees, suppliers, government and local
communities, which is called theory of stakeholder.
The origins of the ideas shaping shareholder theory might be more than 200 years old, with roots in
Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations (1776). In general, shareholder theory encompasses the idea
that the main purpose of business lies in generating profits and increasing shareholder wealth.
According to the theory of shareholder, the main goal might be stated as the the primary
responsibility of a company is to maximise the wealth of its shareholders (Friedman, 1962). As
Zhang (2011) stated that the
My Rule Of Life
My Rule of Life is going to help and direct me to where I want to grow spiritually. Like a trellis
that helps guide plants to grow up in the direction it need to go, I want my Rule of Life to the
same. With God s first two questions to humanity, Where are you? and Where is your brother? I
answered by saying that I do not know. Right now, I am at a time where I feel lost and needsome
guidance. I grew up in a Catholic household, but I never paid attention during mass. I believed that
my background was going to help me but saying that I am a catholic does not mean the same as
being a catholic. Ever since then I never started to build my spiritual trellis that is going to help me
grow and connect with God. Once I went through some of the spiritual practices, it has helped me
understand and look at things in a different perspective. I began to build my spiritual trellis around
margins, non judging, blessingothers, and encouraging others. I have not been doing the practices
from my Rule of Life, but I plan to use these practices hopefully every day for the rest of my life.
By doing this I would expect myself to have grown and reach the gates to the kingdom. The
selected spiritual practices margin, non judging, blessing others, and encouraging others are on my
Rule of Life. I chose margin because I liked the feelingof slowing down and really taking time to
look at things I may have missed. As a college student, many times I feel rushed and need do
everything quickly. I

A B Zee, which specialises on children products, has just been set up as an independent subsidiary

These were distributed to houses fairly close to the store and to those of the ethnic minority around
the store. This was carried out in order to meet the objective of having a balanced work force in
terms of gender, age and ethnic minority.
Apart from being easily accessible, the recruitment team also responded by making themselves more
available. They worked through the evenings and weekends, thereby making them more available to
applicants.
At the northern store, the closure of several manufacturing companies was an opportunity to have
a large pool of potential candidates. A B Zee took the initiative to solicit with the local Job
Centre. The result was that there were too many applications to be processed. The major constraint
was time. As a result of the huge number of applications, there was constraint in the task of short
listing for interview which was as a resulted of the enormous volume of applications received.
Majority of the applicants were of good quality Also, given the size of the task and the time
available it was very likely that the quality of the short listing decisions would be affected.
The lay out of the application form did not help the short listing process at all. The most relevant
information was not grouped together. This was a major constraint as well because more resources,
effort and time had to be devoted to responding to all the applicants.
The recruitment team was also faced with the constraint of having to respond
Descriptive Essay On Buying A Car
It s a cold and snowy winter day, imagine yourself inside my new subaru cruising down I90
towards Snoqualmie. You re so relaxed from the comfy heated seats that you feel not a single
care in the world. Even though the skies are heavy with snow and the roads hidden from sight by
ice, I too feel relaxed, thanks to the AWD system that all Subarus have. We go over a sheet of ice
and begin to slide, with just a touch of throttle and help from the AWD system I correct the slide.
You continue to lie in your seat like nothing ever happened. I glance over to the other side of the
road and feel my stomach get heavy, a semi truckis sliding towards us. I look over to you, you know
exactly what i m thinking in my head. We close our eyes and have the thoughts of love and hope in
our minds. Mom, as you know I will be turning 16 very soon and will need a car. I understand that
buying a car for me sounds like a scary idea, but I have proved myself a capable and responsible
driver. I also know we already have a car, but me using it would be an unwise decision. Our current
car (actually a truck) is very unsafe and unfit for my needs. Safety is one of the utmost priorities
people look for in a car, parents especially. Subaruhas one of the highest brand safety/crash test
ratings of any brand. A safe vehicle also means it s cheap to insure which will also save money.
Subaru is also known for great reliability which could pay for itself. Because all Subarus come
standard with AWD, we could go
Buffalo Creek Flood Research Paper
The Buffalo Creek flood of West Virginia is believed to be the most devastating coal relate
disaster in West Virginia history. The flood occurred in the Buffalo Creek area of Logan County
on February 26, 1972 when three dams broke and released 132 million gallons of water and coal
waste known by miners as gob, and is a thick sludge like material. The gob contains many toxic
chemicals and pollutants such as mercury and arsenic that are left behind from the coal mining
process. The wastewater would lie in settling ponds and dams until it could be properly disposed
of. The water that was left over from processing coal would be disposed of in two different ways.
Some of the water would be pumped from the dam back to the tipple , otherwise
A Report On Child Care
A mother picks up her three year old son early from child care after concerns of a sudden onset of
a fever upon waking up from naptime. She was informed that he was fine in the morning playing
as usual and did not appear to be out of sorts as far as how he was acting. Diet was normal and
nothing different was giving to him for lunch or morning snack After the set naptime was up the
child seemed to have felt hotter than normal with a temperature of ninety nine point seven degrees
Fahrenheit and some sweating concerned the sitter. Initially she believed he might just have early
signs of the flu or strep and decided to give acetaminophen (Tylenol) to reduce the feverand see in
the morning how he feels. Through the course of the night the child wakes up with aches and pains
and small bumps on his face. First thing in the morning a call is made to the child s pediatrician for
the first available appointment. An initial assessment was taken by the nurse revealing more
information. The mother said the child care is out of a neighbor s house where they watch around
five kids ranging in age from six months four years old. Immunization records are not required by
her and mom admits she has neglected staying with the recommended schedule and does not know
the exact shots her son has received. The mother also noted that the week prior she noticed one of
the children had bumps on their arms and legs, however she thought they might just be insect bites.
The nurse then takes vitals
The 1910 s-The Origins
1910 s The Origins Speedo® originated in 1914 under the brand name Fortitude , which was
taken from the motto on the clan MacRae crest. It didn t become known by its now famous brand
name until 1928. The company was started by a young Scot called Alexander MacRae, who
migrated to Australia in 1910, and set up an underwear manufacture business called MacRae
Hosiery manufacturers. In response to the growing beach culture in Australia, MacRae quickly
expanded his operations to include swimwear and changed the company name to MacRae Knitting

acceptance of swimming as a sport and a more liberal attitude towards mixed bathing. 1928 MacRae

Essay on Social Psychology Research Proposal
Unfair Advantage: Testing the Advantage of Being Attractive in the Workforce The Halo Effect is
the cognitive bias that generalizes that if an individual has one outstanding favorable character trait,
the rest of that individual s trait will be favorable. Specific to physical attractiveness, this is known as
the Attractiveness Halo. Attractiveness plays an important role in determining social interactions. In
fact, the physical attractivenessof an individual is a vital social cue utilized by others to evaluate
other aspects of that individual s abilities (Kenealy, Frude, Shaw, 2001). Because of the attractiveness
halo, attractive applicants trying to enter the workforce tend to... Show more content on

The two applicants will vary in attractiveness. Attractiveness will be determined by the
averageness of a face; the more attractive face will be a compilation of the average of various
facial features common to the Anglo Saxon genetic disposition. Studies of compilations of
average facial traits show that we have a biological preference for the average phenotype because
we believe it indicates evolutionary resilient, fertile genotypes (Langlois, Roggman, 1990.) The
other profile will be composed of a person with facial features that deviate from the average
(example: wide set eyes, etc.) and as a result are found less attractive.
After evaluating both profiles, the employers would be asked to complete a brief questionnaire that
asks them the following: 1) Which of the two employees they would hire if they had a consultant
spot to fill, and 2) To estimate the undergraduate GPA of each of the applicants. The employers will
be instructed not to assign the same GPA applicants.
Expected Results and Discussion The number of employees choosing the attractive applicants over
the unattractive applicants and vice versa will be assessed through a chart and bar graph showing
attractiveness (independent variable) on the X axis, and chances of being hired (dependent
variable) on the Y axis. Likewise, the number of employers assigning the more attractive applicants
higher GPA s and vice versa will also be
