BAL BHAVAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

SCIENCE ASSIGNMENT (COMPETENCY BASED)

CLASS-X (2025-26)
General Instructions:
➢ Prepare all the topics read in class and do these
assignment questions in your respective notebooks.
➢ This assignment will be a part of Internal Assessment
and will carry 10 Marks.
➢ Do all Practice Questions of Reference Book (VK
publications) of the topics covered in class on A4
size ruled sheets and put in Portfolio.
➢ Write the experiments performed in lab and complete
your practical files.

1. CASE STUDY (CHEMICAL REACTIONS

EQUATIONS)
Oxidation is the process of gaining of oxygen or
losing of hydrogen. Reduction is the process of
losing of oxygen or gaining of hydrogen. The
substance which undergoes oxidation is the reducing
agent while the substance which undergoes
reduction is known as the oxidising agent. Oxidation
and reduction always take place together and these
types of reactions are known as redox reactions.
Some of the examples of redox reactions are given
below:

I. Give two examples of oxidation reaction from

your everyday life.
II. Write the oxidising agent in the reaction III
and VI.
II
III. Which of the following is an oxidizing agent?
(a) LiAlH4
(b) Alkaline KMnO4
(c) Acidified K2Cr2O7
(d) Both (b) and (c)
IV. Out of oxidation and reduction, which reaction
takes place at anode and why?
2. Consider the following reactions of three elements
A,B and C and answer the following questions.
A2O3 +2B---------- B2O3+2A
CSO4+2B ------------- B2(SO4)3+3C
3CO+2A---------------A2O3 +3C
a. Which is the most reactive element?
b. Which is the least reactive element?
3. Diagram based question:

a. Identify the region of strong acid, weak acid,

neutral, weak base and strong base on the pH
scale.
b. Lemon juice has a pH value of 2.5. Mark its
position.
c. Which of the following is neutral : milk, pure
water, or soap solution?
4. Balance the following chemical reactions:
a. Zn(s) +AgNO3(aq) Zn(NO3)2(aq)+Ag(s)
b. Burning of natural gas
c. AlCl3+NH4OH Al(OH)3+NH4Cl
d. Mg3N2(s) Mg(s) +N2(g)
e. Pb3O4+HCl bCl2+Cl2+H2O
f. KClO3 KCl+O2
g. Al+CuCl2 AlCl3+Cu
h. C6H12O6+O2+H2O CO2+H2O
i. ZnO+C n+CO
j. KMnO4+H2O+SO2-
K2SO4+MnSO4+H2SO4
5. What is observed when CO2 is passed through lime
water?
(i) For a short duration
For a longer duration. Write the chemical equations of
the reactions involved.

6. For the given data showing object distance and

focal length of three mirrors, answer the following
questions:
a. Out of the three, in which case the mirror will form
the image having same size as the object.
b. Which mirror is being used as make-up mirror?

S.NO OBJECT IMAGE

DISTANCE DISTANCE
1 30 20
2 10 15
3 20 10
c. Draw the ray diagram for part 1) and 2).

7. A ray of light enters from air (n=1) into glass

(n=1.5) with an incident angle of 30°. Find the angle
of refraction. (Use Snell’s Law)
8. A concave lens has a focal length of 15 cm. An object
is placed 30 cm from the lens. Find the position of the
image.

9. A concave lens has focal length of 20 cm. At what

distance from the lens a 5 cm tall object be placed so
that it forms an image at 15 cm from the lens? Also
calculate the size of the image formed.
10.
Describe an activity to show that the inner surface of
the spoon acts as a concave mirror.
11. A ray of light travels from air into water. If the angle of
incidence is 30 degrees and the refractive index of
water is 1.33, calculate the angle of refraction using
Snell's law.

12. Chloroplast are called energy converter. Explain.
13. Name the following:
a. The process in plants that links light energy with
chemical energy.
b. Organisms that can prepare their own food.
c. Cells that surround a stomatal pore.
d. An enzyme secreted from gastric glands in the
stomach that acts on proteins.
e. A particular tissue blocked and the leaves start to
wilt. Identify the tissue that got blocked.
14. Differentiate between
a. Artery and vein.
b. Diastole and Systole.
15. Draw the diagram of human digestive system and
label the following parts.
a. Part of alimentary canal where food is
completely digested.
b. Part of alimentary canal showing
peristaltic movement.
c. Part of alimentary canal where bile is
temporarily stored.
d. State the role of bile.
Part of alimentary canal which absorbs salt, drugs, and
excess water.
16. a. How would digestion of food be affected if the bile
duct is completely blocked. Explain In which
direction lymph travels?
17. How does water enter into root cells from the soil?
18. Name the substances which are re absorbed from the
urine before passing into urinary bladder.
19. “There is a need for a system of control and coordination
in an organism”. Justify the statement.
20. What causes a tendril to encircle or coil around the
object in contact with it. Explain the process
involved.
