3. Problems Identified and Analyses of problems
The following problems are identified.

 Some peoples have no mobiles.

 These students are depend upon the net cafes for their online classes.
 Majority of the people suffer with Eye Sight problems.
 They are unable to buy the mobile .

4.1THE PROBLEMS ARE FACING DURING THE PHONE

USAGE:

 Digital eye strain.4

o The pain and discomfort associated with viewing a digital screen for over 2 hours.
o Eyes begin to burn and itch.
o Blurred vision.
o Eye fatigue.
o Digital Eye Strain can cause headaches.
 Neck problems.
o Also known as “text neck,” which refers to neck pain resulting from looking down at
cell phone or tablet for too long.5
 Increased illnesses due to germs.6
o 1 in 6 cell phones has fecal matter on it.
o E. coli bacteria, which can cause fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, is found on many
phones.
o Phones have been found to be contaminated with MRSA.
 Causes painful abscesses.
 Life-threatening infections in bones, joints, surgical wounds, bloodstream,
heart valves, and lungs.
 Car accidents.
o Many people believe that they can multitask and use their phones while driving, but
this causes significant impairment and puts the driver and others on the road in danger.
o Research has revealed that texting and driving can be just as dangerous as
drinking and driving.7
 Male infertility.
o Preliminary studies have revealed that cell phone radiation may decrease sperm
count, sperm motility and viability.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT Page 18

4.2 PREACUTIONS FOR MOBILE USAGE:

 Do not allow children to use a cell phone except for emergencies.

 Avoid using your cell phone in places, like a bus, where you can passively expose others to
your phone’s electromagnetic fields.
 Avoid carrying your cell phone on your body at all times. Do not keep it near your
body at night such as under the pillow or on a bedside table, particularly if pregnant.
 Whenever possible, use the speaker-phone mode or a wireless Bluetooth headset, which has
less than 1/100th of the electromagnetic emission of a normal cell phone.
 When possible, communicate via text messaging rather than making a call, limiting the
duration of exposure and the proximity to the body

Problems Identified and Analyses of problems

The following problems are identified:

 Parents are not aware of the problems caused by using mobiles

for longer periods.
 Students are spending more time on mobile phones rather than
studies.
 Kids between age 5-15years are also using mobile phones for
playing games and watching videos.
 Most of the people are keeping their mobile data on even then
they are not using .(By keeping mobile data on all the time leads
to emission of heavy harmful radiation).

4. Short term and Long term action plan for possible solutions for
the problems identified and that could be recommended to the
concerned authorities for implementation
possible solutions for the problems identified:
1. Monitor how often you're using your phone.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT Page 19

 Apps like QualityTime and Moment can be used to monitor your
phone usage. They will tell you how much time you spent using your cell
phone on any given day.
 Once you get a sense of how much you use your phone,
decide how much you want to cut back. For example, say you use your
phone for three hours a day and want to cut that in half. You can strive for
only 90 minutes of phone usage in the coming days.
 You can even set your phone timer to help limit your sessions.

2. Turn off notifications

 Most new apps ask you if you want to allow notifications when you first install
them. You should get into the habit of saying "No."
 On your existing apps, turn off notifications. It will be easier to avoid checking
Facebook if you don't get a notification telling you there's a new message in your
inbox.

3.Turn your phone off during certain hours each day.

 It can be particularly helpful to do this right before bed. This will help you
disengage and unwind for sleep.
Check your phone settings and see if you can program your phone to shut off
after certain number of hours
4.Have specific guidelines for phone usage.

 Make a family rule about phone use. For example, you might make it a rule
that everyone in the family has to power down their cell phones for the
evening at a designated time, such as 7pm. You might even have everyone
drop their phones into a basket for the night and then allow them to get them
again in the morning.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

1.To understand the impact of mobile phones among people of different ages.
2.To understand the negative impacts caused by using mobile for longer time.
3.To examine the mobile usage habits.
4.To examine whether people are having any health related issues(ex-eye sight
).
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT Page 20

*To examine the general public awareness about the negative impacts of mobile
phones.
* To explore effective channels for providing information to the public about
the negative impacts of mobile phones.

* To identify factors influencing the good mobile usage practices.

* To examine the general public knowledge about using mobile phones.

PART-C
7. Recommendations and Conclusion

I would like to recommend these following things for the villagers to reduce
mobile phone exposure:

 Keep distance – Hold the cell phone away from body to the extent
possible.
 Use a headset (wired or Bluetooth) to keep the handset away from your
head.
 Do not press the phone handset against your head. Radio Frequency (RF)
energy is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the
source — being very close increases energy absorption much more.
 Limit the length of mobile calls.
 Use text as compared to voice wherever possible.
 Put the cell phone on speaker mode.
 If the radio signal is weak, a mobile phone will increase its transmission
power. Find a strong signal and avoid movement – Use your phone
where reception is good.
 Metal & water are good conductors of radio waves so avoid using a
mobile phone while wearing metal-framed glasses or having wet hair.
 Let the call connect before putting the handset on your ear or start
speaking and listening – A mobile phone first makes the communication
at higher power and then reduces power to an adequate level. More
power is radiated during call connecting time.
 If you have a choice, use a landline (wired) phone, not a mobile phone.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT Page 21

 When your phone is ON, don’t carry it in chest/breast or pants pocket.
When a mobile phone is ON, it automatically transmits at high power
every one or two minutes to check (poll) the network.
 Reduce mobile phone use by children as a younger person will likely
have a longer lifetime exposure to radiation from cell phones.
 People having active medical implants should preferably keep the cell
phone at least 15 cm away from the implant.

Conclusion :
The usage of mobile phones is depending on you, how you use
your mobile phones. You can prevent yourself from these bad effects of
using mobile phones. By limiting your usage of mobile phones. This is
your responsibility to know from all the good and bad effects of using
mobile phones and prevent yourself and your loved ones from their bad
effects.Everything is depending on you that how you use mobile phones
if you use them in a good way and limit then you can prevent yourself
from its bad effects. And if you use it in a bad way then its results will be
obviously bad.My responsibility and the basic aim of this article is to
inform all the people about the bad effects of excessive usage of mobile
phones. Now it’s your turn to prevent yourself from the bad effects of
mobile phones
