Two examples of report

REPORT TASK Your college has been asked to accept a group

of 50 students from another country for two weeks. Your
principal has asked you to write a report. What would be the
advantages and disadvantages of accepting this group? What
would you recommend? Write your report in 140-190 words in
an appropriate style.

REPORT ON PROPOSED VISIT BY 50 OVERSEAS STUDENTS

Introduction

The purpose of this report is to consider the advantages

and disadvantages of accepting a large group of students
from overseas for two weeks. I have discussed the issue
with all the senior members of college staff.

Advantages

All those I interviewed believe that for students, this would

be an exciting opportunity to explore a foreign culture, both
in the classroom and socially. Overall, they thought the visit
would be stimulating for the college at a quiet time of the
year.

Disadvantages

Some members of staff are concerned that:

1. there would be insufficient seating in the library at busy

times.

2. the visitors might be more interested in enjoying

themselves than studying.

3. the restaurant queue would be very slow at lunchtime.

Conclusion and recommendation

Taking all things in consideration, the visit might involve

some practical difficulties, but on the whole, everyone
thought that it should be seen as an opportunity not to be
missed. I would therefore suggest that the college accept
the group.

REPORT: HOW TO IMPROVE THE PLACE WHERE I LIVE

We are going to see the use of connectors , the variety
of verb tenses, use of passive voice, and the wide use of
vocabulary.

Introduction

The aim of this report is to point out what improvements

the area where I live needs in order to be nicer and
safer. Besides, this text might be useful (modal verb) to
suggest how the city hall could spend the amount of money
it has available.

Roads

First of all, it must be said (pasiva con modal….¿qué

bonito!) that my area is located in the North of the town, so
it is the main way into Sagunto. Consequently, roads are
severely damaged and there are lots of holes. This might be
so dangerous that I would dare to say (me atrevería a
decir….bonita expresión) they will cause an accident
soon. As far as I’m concerned, the repair is compulsory.

Trees

Years ago, my area was well-known because of the wide

range of trees it housed. Nevertheless, new buildings were
the priority and the bushes were cut. The place looks sad
right now and the neighbourhood is tired of demanding to
plant new ones. Tourism is also being affected (pasiva
present continuous). Therefore, it is not only an appearance
matter but also a local economy issue. (not only…but also –
¿conocéis esta expresión?….pues ¡a usarla!)

Recommendation

In the light of the above, I recommend spending the money

on fixing every road to ensure people’s safety. In addition,
trees should be replanted (pasiva con modal) with the
purpose of cheering up the area for residents as well as for
tourists.
