Introduction:
Good morning, Grade 10- students, and welcome to your English Class with teacher France.
May I introduce myself first. I am Mary France L. Malto, a BSEd-4 English student teacher.
Today I will be your teacher; you can call me Ma’am France. I hope we can have fun and learn
together.
Prayer:
Before we begin, let us pray first.
Let us bow our heads and feel the presence of our almighty God.
Father God, as we start this new day for new learning, we ask for your guidance. Lead us all the
way. May you let us see through your eyes, listen through your ears, and speak with your
mouth. Give us the heart to love and be kind to one another. Please bless our teachers, our
schools, and the students. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Classroom Management:
Before taking the comfort of your seats, kindly look if there are litters of paper under your chairs.
Then, arrange your chairs properly. If everything is settled, you may be seated.
Alright, in this class I only have four rules. The “SKLR”
1. Sit properly.
2. Keep all your gadgets.
3. Listen attentively.
4. Respect each other.
Okay, I hope you are all well today and ready to listen and participate in our class discussion.
Are you ready, class?
Okay. Very good.
Recall
Before we proceed to our lesson proper, may I ask for a volunteer to give us a quick
recapitulation of the topic discussed before this meeting? Anyone, what was your last topic?
(Cut Video)
Motivation:
Today, we have a fun game that I think you will enjoy. We will be playing the game
“Charades.”
Are you familiar with this game, class?
Yes, ma’am. It was a form of parlor game where we had to act out a phrase without speaking
while the other team members tried to guess what the word was.
Very good!
I think most of us already know this game.
Here are the mechanics for those who are not yet, familiar with this game.
1. Divide the players into two teams.
2. Select a least two representatives for each team.
3. Each team will brainstorm on the question “What is your favorite hobby?” The top favorite will
be the phrase you need to act out.
4. The opposite team must guess the word in under 1 minute (the teacher will be the
timekeeper). If they fail to guess it, the point will be given to the other team.
5. The group that got the highest point and shortest time will win the game.
Are the instructions clear to everyone?
Yes, ma’am.
Are you ready?
Yes, ma’am.
Then, let’s begin.
(Students will play the game)
Did you have fun?
Yes, ma’am.
That’s great.
Did you get to know more about your classmates?
Yes, ma’am.
In what way?
We get to know each other more during our brainstorming by sharing the hobbies we
love the most. We also discover that each of us has similarities and differences.
(Cut the video)
Presentation of the lesson:
Now, the game that we played exposes you to get to know other people.
In today’s lesson, we will be discussing biography and autobiography. Later on, we will
discuss how they can help us know more about the people around us.
Objectives:
Here are the objectives for today.
At the end of the 60-minute period wherein we will be talking about the definition of biography
and autobiography, and we will also provide examples for these for you to understand it better,
you are expected, or at least 75% of the class are expected to:
1. differentiate biography from autobiography;
2. contribute meaningfully to class discussion by sharing their life stories; and
3.write a biography and autobiography
Activity:
“Blank and White”
Before we proceed with the discussion, let us have another activity.
Direction: I have here five words, and I want you to find the missing letter to complete the words
that fit the meaning.
(Students will answer the activity)
Now, I need volunteers for numbers 1 to 5. I have here the letters that will fix the words above.
All you need to do is to paste it right.
Okay, very well. Later we’ll check if your answers are correct.
Analysis:
Now, we are going to check your answers.
For number 1, this means life, what is this?
For number 2, it is a true story a person’s life written by someone else.
For number 3, this is the one who writes the biography.
For number 4, this means “to write”
For number 5, is the story of a person’s life is told by that person. What is your answer?
These words are some of the terms we will encounter as we discuss biography and
autobiography.
We will now discuss biography and autobiography.
Let us first discuss biography.
When we say biography, it comes from the word “Bio” and “Graphia”
What do we mean by Bio again, class?
How about graphia?
Very good.
This means that a biography is a true story of your life or the life of famous people written by
another person.
It often talks about the life of well-known and important people such as world leaders, scientists,
movie stars, athletes, and other prominent people.
Who can name some well-known or famous people in our country?
The people that you have mentioned can become the subject of a biography.
When we say subject, this is the person whose life is described in the biography.
Now, what do we call the one who writes a biography?
Precisely!
If you were to write a life story about Manny Pacquaio, then Manny Pacquaio would be the
subject, and you would be the biographer.
Biographies are written in third-person point of view, which means the narrator is outside the
story.
Now, what pronoun are we going to use if we write the story of Manny Pacquaio?
That’s correct!
When we write in a third-person point of view, we use pronouns like he, she, her, and him to
refer to the subject.
Now class, let us try to read the biography of Manuel Luis Quezon. Again, this one is not written
by Manuel Luis Quezon, instead another person wrote this for Manuel L. Quezon.
Manuel Luis Quezon (1878-1944) was the first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. He
prepared the groundwork for Philippine independence in 1946.
Manuel Quezon was born on Aug. 19, 1878, to Lucio Quezon and Maria Molina, both schoolteachers, in
Baler, Tayabas (now Quezon) Province, in Luzon. Manuel enrolled at San Juan de Letran College, after
which he was appointed lecturer at the University of Santo Tomás. There he studied law, but his studies
were interrupted by the outbreak of the Spanish-American War.
Quezon was considered "bright but lazy"; but when he joined the revolutionary forces of Gen. Emilio
Aguinaldo during the revolution against Spain, Quezon displayed his fearless, bold, and quick-tempered
style of fighting. He was promoted from private to major until, in 1899, he surrendered to the
Americans, spent 6 months in jail, and then returned to Manila.
Now, do you understand what biography is, class?
Excellent!
Now, let us move on to autobiography.
Autobiography is the same as biography except for one key difference: the story of a person’s
life is told by that person.
This means that a person tells their own life story in an autobiography. Because of this,
autobiography is told in first-person point of view.
Now, what pronoun are we going to use to write an autobiography?
Very good!
Now, a Top Tip for everyone. The autobiography tells you more about the person’s thoughts
and feelings; however, it may not always give you the complete picture of someone’s life.
If the person telling the story doesn’t want to mention things that don’t make them look good,
they could just miss them out.
Now, I am going to show you, my autobiography. Of course, what you will be reading is just the
good side of me. As I mentioned earlier, most of us don’t want to write about our most
embarrassing moments, and I am one of them.
Okay, let’s read.
At the break of the dawn on the 11th of September 1999, a new baby was born and given
life, and that was me. It was a brand-new day and life showered by the Lord, a special day for
my parents, Mr. Zaldy Malto and Mrs. Maria Linda Malto, as well as for my brother, Jhan
Michael Malto.
The then family of three already become four. A blessing indeed. My family calls me
France or Francia as my nickname. I have always been joyful and jolly as a person. I’ve lived a
simple yet happy life. As a kid, I focused on my education and learning.
I spent my elementary education at Lourdes Elementary School. These primary years in
education gave me various happy experiences in learning and childhood. In Junior up to Senior
High School, I studied at Colacling National High School, where I further developed my skills.
Going to college and choosing a course was not easy, but then God led me where I
knew he wanted me to be – in the field of teaching. Currently, I am still finishing my college
journey. Traveling through life is like a roller coaster. There are seasons of happiness, and there
are seasons of struggles. But in whatever season, I have learned to be always grateful because
having a thankful heart will let you see the bright side of all situations and that life is what you
make it.
Now that we are done discussing each of them, let us examine their differences by looking at
this comparison table.

Now class, do you understand the difference between biography and autobiography?
Excellent!
Now that we are done with our lesson. Let us now apply what you have learned today by doing
another activity.
“PAIR, SHARE, WRITE”
In this activity, you are going to pair with your seatmate. Your task is to interview each other and
find out the basic information. Afterward, you are going to write a short biography about your
partner.
Are my instructions clear, class?
Very good.
To help you with the interview, here are some questions you may ask your partner. You can
miss out on some questions and add if you like.
Guide questions:
What is your name?
Do you have any nicknames?
Who are your parents?
When is your birthday?
How old are you?
Where do you live?
What is your favorite hobby?
What kind of pet do you have, if any? What are their names?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Moreover, please be guided by the rubrics.
(The teacher will distribute one copy of the guide questions and rubrics per partner)
You have 15 minutes to do this activity. After that, I will ask volunteers to share their work in
class.
Are you done, class?
Let us hear your works; who wants to volunteer?
Good job, everyone!
Please pass your works.
For those who cannot share their works, it’s okay. I will be reading each of these, and I am sure
you did a great job writing your seatmate’s first biography.
Before we end this lesson, there are still questions left to see. This is to know if you really
master the things I have discussed.
Again, what is the difference between Biography and Autobiography?
A biography is a true story of a person written by another person. Hence, it uses a third-person
point of view. On the other hand, an autobiography is written by a person about their own life.
What is the importance of reading and writing biography and autobiography?
Reading and writing biography and autobiography is essential because we can learn from other
people’s experiences in their written accounts through this.
Congratulations!
Based on your answers, I am confident that you understand our lesson for today.
Before we end our class, I will first explain your assignments.
V. EVALUATION
Direction: Create a Venn Diagram showing the differences and similarities of biography and
autobiography
VI. ASSIGNMENT
You don’t have to be famous to write an autobiography! People in the future will be very
interested in the life you are leading right now.
If you could write a letter for someone in the future, what would you tell your reader?
You could mention:
Your basic information (birthdays, name, name of parents, and siblings)
The things you do in your daily life
The things you like and that you are interested in.
The changes you have seen in your life because of the pandemic
Your thoughts and feelings about what have happened to you.
You can start your autobiography with the sample below; however, you can change it
and be more creative.
Dear Reader of the Future:
It has been an exciting and unusual year……
