WHY DID WE CHOOSE THIS RESEARCH TITLE?
Since our country has an energy shortage and high
electricity consumption price, we decided to choose this
project that aims to save power even in the simplest form
such as automatically shutting downlights using the heat-
detecting sensor. This system is applicable not only for
lighting systems but also any system on standby mode. The
principle is that whenever the heat sensor detects body
heat, it will continue to work normally. If there is no body
heat detected, it will automatically shut down the lights or
any system.
RATIONALE OF THE STUDY
A heat sensor that connects on a timer relay device that
setup a shutdown timer on lighting or other appliances
attached to it. The research would focus on an easy way to
shut down lighting and appliances in fewer efforts and
automatically control your lights or appliances. The research
conducts this study to provide less energy consumption.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
General Objective:
Generally, the research aims to provide less energy consumption, time, and effort on shutting
down lighting system.
Specific Objectives:
To design a cheaper device that can reduce energy with the use of a power shutdown timer.
To buy all the materials are needed in this project.
To double-check the materials, and start designing and assembling the project.
To test the timer shutdown and check if it is working properly or not.
MATERIALS FOR THE PROJECT
Wire
Allan Timer Relay
Stepdown Transformer (12V)
Heat Sensor
Screw
Electrical Tape
Soldering Iron
Lead
Pontentiometer
INTRODUCTION
Energy is one of the top most considerations of an ordinary
Filipino family; Electricity to light up their homes in order to function at
night and means
of security to protect their families when darkness strike.
Electrical Engineers are built with the purpose of creating innovative
ways to
make lives easier as well as to be in tuned with the changes that goes
around the world.
As aspiring Electrical Engineers, the group of fourth year B.S. Electrical
Engineering
students of STI West Negros University wants to share their part in
making the world a
better place. Thus, the group had thought of a way to address the
growing problem of
electricity bills in households and establishments as well.
Sensors are now very popular in securing establishments. It is also used
in
automation of switching devices. Why not make these two separate tools
into one
device that can not only automate the switching of lighting system also
saves energy.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The main objective of the study is to design and develop a prototype that automatically
switches the lighting system in homes and establishments.
Specifically, the research aims to answer the following questions:
1. What are the design specifications of an Automatic Light-switching device using timer with
heat sensor.
• 1. Functionality
• 2. Stability
• 3. Reliability
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Fundamentally the device employs a very important principle of
converting the infrared emissions of a human body detected by the
infrared sensor to a relay with timer circuit which you can adjust
according to your preferences. This will enable the user to turn the lights
ON and OFF using a switch or using basic automation to reduce energy
costs and improve sustainability.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
• To develop and construct Automatic Light Switching using relay with
timer and infrared sensor.
• Specific Objectives:
1. To draw the basic block diagram of the system.
2. Automation of light switching using a infrared sensor.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:
This device will introduce to our generation an innovative way of light
switching and most importantly, is to be able to save energy in a world
where every resource are short at hand and prices are soaring high in the
sky by being able to determine in itself the right time to switch the lights
on and off which results to lesser energy consumption.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY:
This device is applicable to every individual but are not limited to those who
• The devices is only used for automation of switching of an area with a range of 5-8
meter in front of the device for this is the reachable range of our infrared motion
sensor used to detect infrared emissions of humans.
• This device is not used to power the lighting devices of your home for it is only
limited to switching purposes and security system of establishments and
households.
• For efficiency and convenience, specify sensors that have incorporate a daylight
sensor and/or timer so lights don’t turn on unnecessarily also have a manual over-
ride function.
