This thing is absolutely obnoxious.
The premise is a weak idiocy, the characters (except Ruri) are pathetic clowns. It's overcomplicated with nonsense for no reason. It's almost a gag parody, but it does not go all the way with being a gag, instead at the core of it is a sappy bullshit lavstory.
The only thing helping it is the gorgeous animation made by studio Shaft.
A ridiculous waste of time otherwise.

The high school student Ichijou Raku is the son of a leader in the yakuza faction Shuei-Gumi, and Kirisaki Chitoge is the daughter of a boss in a rival gang known as Beehive. They unexpectedly meet when Chitoge hops a wall and knees Raku in the face. After she runs off, Raku realizes he has lost his pendant which was given to him by his childhood sweetheart with whom he made a secret promise. After discovering Chitoge is a new transfer student in his class, he forces her to help him look for the pendant. During the search, they begin to dislike each other.
Upon returning home, Raku learns that the Shuei-Gumi and Beehive gangs have agreed to settle their feud by pairing their leaders' children, and that his girlfriend-to-be is none other than Chitoge. For the next three years, they must pretend to be in a relationship to maintain peace between the gangs. This turns out to be quite a challenging task, not only because of their hatred for one another, but also because Raku has a crush on another schoolmate, Onodera Kosaki, whom he secretly wishes was the girl who bears the key to his pendant. The thing that this story provides is a near-perfect template presentation of the harem/romcom show. Not only is it well-produced with a decent vocal cast and script, but it's entertaining as well, and the male protagonist isn't just some random deadbeat. All of the characters are likable and have a certain depth to them. Unfortunately, this show is based off a manga that was far from complete at the time, and the manga meandered horribly before drawing to a solid conclusion, meaning that the anime is left open-ended, and although a final season is entirely justified here to tie things up, it's likely that this show will never get that conclusion. You'll have to read the manga for that. Must see for haremcom fans, and also must see for anyone that wants to immerse themselves in the broad spectrum of genres covered in anime.

Standard harem romcom. As such, although it progresses faster than usual, it ultimately doesn't really go anywhere. The manga is finished though, so there's hope for a complete adaption down the line. It is one of the better representatives of its genre however and the production values are unusually high, the visuals and direction are fantastic.
But most of all, the characters are wonderfully varied, impossible to hate and a boatload of fun, the supporting cast especially.
It does everything you expect it to and does it all with a flourish. Perfect entertainment for those days were you want something energetic, funny, fluffy and lovable.

Certainly not the worst anime out there, but nothing exceptional. The character designs were interesting, and the animation was great - as to be expected from Shaft. Not the show you want to watch if you want a resolution by the end of the season.
