Details on Mouseflow releases from November 2024 onwards

Updated this week

Note: Mouseflow began publishing release notes externally in November 2024.

Release Notes | December 15, 2025

Introducing: View by Page mode

Ever wanted to see how a single page performs across sessions without watching entire recordings? View by Page mode makes that possible.

With this new replay mode (located in your Recorded Sessions list), you can focus playback on one specific page and instantly watch how different visitors experienced it. Unrelated pages are automatically skipped, and playback starts on the first matching pageview, so you can quickly spot friction and behavior trends where they matter most.

Use View by Page mode to:

  • Compare how different users interact with the same page

  • Spot recurring friction or hesitation points

  • Validate changes to key pages without extra setup

Note: View by Page mode is available in Recorded Sessions only (not Live Sessions).

Introducing: Mina AI

We’re excited to announce the release of Mina AI, a brand-new intelligence layer that redefines how you surface meaningful patterns in your data.

Instead of digging through long session lists or building complex filters, just ask Mina what you want to see — in simple language.

With Mina AI, you can simply ask questions like:

  • “Show me sessions with click-rage”

  • “Find frustrated mobile users”

  • “Show me sessions with friction from yesterday.”

Mina instantly pulls the sessions that matter, highlights friction patterns, and gives you clear, actionable explanations - so you can move from questions to answers in seconds.

Redesigned Filtering Experience

We’ve refreshed your filtering experience, making it easier to set, adjust, and combine filters across Mouseflow. The new layout is clear, easy to use, and supports editing multiple filters at once!

This update includes improvements to:

  • The date picker

  • Saved filters

  • The Add Filters panel

How it works

Date Picker

  • If the To date is earlier than the From date, Mouseflow will automatically update the From date field so you can select a To date and have a valid date range filter applied.

  • You can now type dates in both mm/dd/yyyy (ex. 10.31.2025) and MMM DD YYYY (ex. Oct 31 2025)

Saved Filters

  • Functionality stays the same, but we have updated the design.

    Screenshot 2025-11-12 153159.png

Add Filters

  • Filter types and options remain unchanged, but the design and experience has been streamlined.

    Screenshot 2025-11-12 160417.png

  • When you select a filter, a panel opens on the right where you can adjust its' settings. Filters that support multiple conditions (such as page filters, tags, or variables) still allow applying multiple rules for more precise filtering and user segmentation.

    Screenshot 2025-11-12 154939.png

  • The panel always reflects your currently applied filters, but changes aren’t applied unless you click Apply.

What hasn’t changed

  • Different filter types still use “AND” logic when combined.

  • Currently, you can only filter on the session-level and can’t filter for events or tags that occurred on a specific pageview.

Friction Insights Dashboard: New Report

We’ve expanded the Friction Insights dashboard to help you better understand how user experience evolves across your website. The update introduces a new over-time visualization Friction Score Over Time.

What’s New?

  • Friction Score Over Time Report
A new line graph visualizes how your overall Friction Score evolves—daily, weekly, or monthly. Friction Score helps you assess user frustration. The lower the score, the better.

  • Toggle Between Page and Website Friction Score
You can now switch between analyzing an individual page or the entire website:

    • Page View shows the Page Friction Score: the average score for the selected page over the displayed date range.
→ Benchmarked against your website’s 30-day average Friction Score.

    • Website View shows the Website Friction Score: the average friction score across all pageviews for the displayed period.
      → Benchmarked against your industry’s 30-day average.

    Color Indicators
Each data point on the graph is color-coded based on benchmark comparisons:

    • Green: Below benchmark (positive performance)

    • Red: Above benchmark (needs attention)

🔍 You can explore the other existing reports in the Friction Insights Dashboard here.

Better User Management

Improved User Management
Account Owners and Administrators can now manage users more efficiently with two major updates:

  • Bulk Actions: Activate, deactivate, or delete multiple users at once using the new dropdown action menu. Simply click on the arrow button to see the menu (see screenshot below)

  • Quick User Setup: Create new users by copying permissions and access levels from existing ones—just click the copy icon next to any user.

Funnel Update: Metrics Over Time

You can now view how your funnels perform over time with a new trends graph in the Funnels report! This update makes it easier to spot changes in user behavior and compare your funnel's performance across date ranges.

You can find this graph in your Funnel report by toggling the header to Conversion Over Time (in the orange box pictured in the screenshot above). This graph displays three key metrics over your selected date range: Conversion Rate, Started Funnel, and Converted. You can toggle each metric on or off (by clicking them within the legend) to focus on the insights that matter most. Whether you're tracking daily shifts or long-term trends, this gives you a clearer picture of how your funnel is performing.

Introducing Revenue Insights in Funnels

We’re excited to introduce a powerful new way to connect your conversion data to real business impact. With this new feature, you can assign a monetary value to each funnel’s conversion, giving you clear visibility into how much revenue is gained from users who complete your funnel—and how much potential revenue is lost from drop-offs.

💡Revenue insights are only visible to Pro plans and above

What’s New?

  • Conversion Value Assignment: Set a specific currency and value per funnel to represent the revenue generated when a user completes the funnel. This value becomes the basis for all revenue metrics.

  • Revenue Metrics Dashboard: View the following data directly in the Funnel Report:

    • Total Revenue: Revenue generated by completed conversions.

    • Potential Revenue: Estimated value lost from users who dropped off.

    • Annual Revenue Opportunity: A projection based on current funnel performance.

  • Revenue Calculator: Estimate how much additional revenue you could generate by improving the conversion rate by a specific percentage at any funnel step.

  • Per-Step Revenue Data: View how much revenue is gained or lost at each step in the funnel, helping you prioritize where to focus improvements.

  • Exportable Metrics: All revenue insights are included in funnel CSV exports for easy reporting.

Funnels: Improved Design and Reporting

We’ve updated the Funnels feature to streamline how you create, track, and analyze your funnels. This update features a clean design, improved metrics, and an intuitive layout to help you get the most insight from your funnel data!

Updated Funnels UI

The previous card view on the Funnel overview page has been replaced with a table, aligning with the design of other features like Feedback and Journeys. This change makes it easier to compare conversion rates, step order and other key metrics in one place.

Funnel Builder

Now, choose between “Equals” and “Starts with” for page rules, giving you more control when creating funnels. Funnels that previously used wildcards (e.g., /product*) will now use the “Starts with” rule.

Improved Funnel Reports

Funnel reports now include a more detailed metrics table, tracking friction score, visit time, and engagement time at each step. Data is broken down between continuers (those who move to the next step) and drop-offs (those who don’t). Updated visuals make the report easy and intuitive to read, and you can hover over segments in the funnel to view the related data below!

Friction Insights Dashboard: New Reports

Broken Links and 404s

Nobody likes broken links - so we’re introducing this report widget to make it easier to find and fix them. The new Broken Links and 404s Widget, found on the Friction Insights Dashboard, helps you spot which links and pages are triggering 404 errors, so you can clean them up and keep your site running smoothly.

This widget includes three views:

  • Internal Source – See which pages on your site lead visitors to a missing path or page.

  • External Source – Find out which outside referrers are directing visitors to missing pages.

  • All – A quick overview of your most common 404s.

Each tab includes a play button so you can jump straight into the related session recordings so you can dig deeper.

Page Performance

Page speed matters - a slow-loading site can frustrate visitors and hurt conversions. That’s why we’ve added the Page Performance Widget to give you a clear picture of how fast (or slow) your pages are loading!

The widget includes three views:

  • Slowest with Most Pageviews – This tab displayed a ranked list of pages with the highest pageviews, and longest render times.

  • Most Pageviews – A list of your site's most visited pages.

  • Slowest Pages – A list of the pages with the longest loading times.

Friction Insights Dashboard: Improved Ranking Visibility

We've made it easier to understand how pages are ranked in the "Top pages to focus on" widget in the Friction Insights Dashboard by introducing a dedicated Ranking Criteria column.

The new Ranking Criteria column includes:

  • Early Friction: Friction happened shortly after entering the page.

  • Page Left: Friction on this page often occurs right before users move to another page.

  • Session Dropped: Friction on this page often occurs right before users leave the session.

  • Friction Severity: When friction happens on this page it's significant (high friction score).

  • Friction Frequency: A large percentage of visitors to this page experience a friction event.

  • Page Popularity: This is a popular page on your website.

This update provides better visibility into ranking factors, helping you make more informed decisions about page prioritization.

Friction Insights Dashboard: Sessions & Friction Filtering

We've added a pointer icon when hovering over the “Total Sessions” and “Total Sessions with Friction” checkboxes and labels allowing you to easily filter the visualization.

Journeys: Default Step Visibility Update

To provide better context in Journeys, we’ve adjusted the default step visibility. When creating a new Journey, you will now see:

  • 1 step before the Focus Step

  • The Focus Step itself

  • 3 steps after the Focus Step (2 steps for Business plans)

Custom Tags: Improved Sorting & UI

We've updated the Custom Tags table to make it easier to find newly added tags.

  • The newest custom tags will now appear at the top of the table by default.

  • Improved pop-up messages for better clarity when creating or modifying tags.

Friction Insights Dashboard: New Widget Reports

Friction Overview Widget

Get a high-level breakdown of friction events with our new Friction Overview Widget! This widget displays a bar chart which reports the frequency of each Friction Event - helping identify trends and problem areas. You can click the play button icon on the right-side of the report to quickly view sessions where the selected Friction Event was triggered.

Sessions & Friction Widget

Understand the relationship between sessions and friction with our new Sessions & Friction Widget! This report visualizes how many of your total sessions include friction and lets you filter by specific friction types using the dropdown in the upper-left. Compare different friction events against total sessions to better understand how frequently your users are running into Friction Events.

Render Time Calculation in the Heatmap List

We have updated how render time is displayed in the Heatmap list. Instead of using an average, we now calculate median render time for more accurate reporting. If the render time is below 0.01, it will be rounded up and displayed as "<0.01", ensuring it's easy to visually identify those fast-loading pages.

Strict Funnels

We’re excited to introduce Strict Funnels, a new way to track visitor journeys where steps must be completed in a specific order.

When creating or editing your funnels, you’ll now have the option to choose between two flow types:

🔹 Predefined Order – Visitors must complete funnel steps in the exact sequence you set. They can visit other pages in between, but if a step is skipped or done out of order, it will be marked as a drop-off at the last correctly completed step.

🔹 Any Order – Visitors are considered converted as long as they visit all funnel steps during their session, no matter the order in which they were visited.

💡 By default, new funnels are set to Predefined Order, but you can easily switch to Any Order if it fits your tracking needs. Learn more about our Funnel logic here.

Improved Accessibility for Feedback Surveys

We’re excited to announce important accessibility improvements to our Feedback Survey widget, making it more inclusive for all users, including those who rely on screen readers.

What’s New?

  • Screen Reader Support: Users with screen readers can now fully interact with the feedback survey, guaranteeing equal access to providing feedback.

  • Improved Widget Header: On small or zoomed-in screens, the widget header is now scrollable in both collapsed and expanded states for better navigation.

  • Responsive Close/Collapse Button: The close/collapse button now follows the header scroll, improving usability on smaller screens.

  • ImprovedReadability: Rating-type answers now have improved font color contrast for better visibility.

These updates align with the European Accessibility Act (EAA) 2025 and are based on WCAG 2.1 guidelines. While the compliance deadline is June 28, 2025, we’re proud to roll out these features early to support accessibility needs for all users.

Tooltips for Built-in Tags

We’ve added tooltips to auto-generated built-in tags, making it easier for you to understand their meaning.

What’s New?

When you hover over a built-in tag, you’ll now see a helpful description:

  • mouse-out: This user moved their cursor out of the viewport.

  • click-rage: This user excessively clicked on a page element.

  • dead-clickThis user clicked on something that was not meant to be clicked.

  • bounce: This user has quickly returned to the previous page they came from within 10 seconds.

  • form-interact: This user has interacted with a form.

  • payment: This user has entered information that matches the format of a credit card number.

  • feedback: This user has interacted with a Feedback Survey.

  • speed-browsing: The user has visited 5 pages within 30 seconds.

Introducing Friction Insights Filters in Session Replay

We’ve made it easier to analyze user behavior by introducing Friction Insights Filters directly in the Session Replay list—applied seamlessly from the Friction Insights Dashboard.

What’s New?

  • Visible Friction Filters: Any friction filters you apply in the Friction Insights Dashboard will now be visible and active in the Session Replay list, giving you a consistent view of user behavior tied to friction events.

  • Filter Management: You can save and delete these filters just like other filters, following the same intuitive logic for easy management.

  • Exclusive to Friction Insights: These filters are exclusive to the Friction Insights Dashboard and won’t appear in the general filters section.

Release Notes | January 20, 2025

Improvement to Heatmaps Topbar

We’ve made updates to the Heatmaps topbar UI to improve usability and provide a more seamless experience.

What’s New?

  • Clearer Dropdowns: Heatmap and Device Type are now more noticeable and easier to interact with.

  • Friction Events: Quickly focus on specific friction types (e.g., total friction, click errors, click rage, and dead clicks) with improved clarity and accessibility.

Try out the updated Heatmaps and see the difference!

Before:

After:

Journeys: Watch Drop-Offs and Download Data

We’ve added two powerful options to help you analyze and optimize your Journeys:

  • Watch Drop-Offs: Easily track where users leave your site and gain deeper insights into their behavior. Use this feature to identify opportunities for improvement and keep users engaged.

  • Download CSV: Export your Journey data directly to a CSV file for further analysis or reporting. This makes it easier to share insights with your team and work with the data in external tools.

Mute Dead Clicks

We’ve added the ability to Mute Dead Clicks alongside Click-Rage muting in the settings.

  • Dead Clicks: Occurs when users click on non-clickable elements (e.g., images or text).

  • Why Mute?: If these clicks don’t represent frustration (e.g., clicking an arrow on a carousel), you can mute them to prevent them from impacting your friction score.

Session Playback Optimizations

We’ve optimized session playback to make it faster and more efficient. Short pageviews are now batched together, and the next pageview is preloaded when playback is within seven seconds of the current page ending.

Release Notes | January 8, 2025

Friction Events in Session Replay

We’ve made exciting updates to the Session Replay environment, building on the new friction insights that were released in November. With this update, it's easier to hover and select individual icons are when they’re close together on the scrub bar in Session Replay - making it simpler to focus on the most critical insights.

Access Custom Tags from the Filters Menu

We’ve made it easier to harness the power of Custom Tags by linking directly to the Custom Tag Editor from within the Filters menu! Not only can you quickly filter sessions based on your unique tags, but you can now launch the Custom Tag Editor by clicking Create Custom Tags. This update streamlines your workflows, saving you time and making it even easier to create and manage your data using your Custom Tags.

Release Notes | November 25, 2024

Renaming Live Heatmaps to Interactive Heatmaps

We’ve updated the name of our Live Heatmaps to Interactive Heatmaps to better reflect their functionality. Explore this feature to better analyze your dynamic elements on your websites like drop-down menus.

Feedback Survey Trigger Update

Feedback Surveys will only follow visitors on the pages where they are specifically configured to be triggered. This guarantees a more accurate and targeted survey experience by no longer tracking visitors on unselected pages.

The Custom Tag trigger option has been removed from Feedback Surveys.

UI Update: Dashboards

We've made some improvements to the Dashboard left-hand menu for a more organized experience. A new "Custom" section has been introduced in the left-hand menu for all your personalized dashboards.

Release Notes | November 11, 2024

Friction Update: Mute Click-Rage

We’re excited to introduce a new feature around the existing Click-Rage Friction Event! Designed to give you more control over your friction data - now you can selectively mute Click-Rage events on specific elements to prevent them from affecting your overall friction score—ideal for avoiding false positives and focusing on the interactions that matter.

Note: To ensure a smooth and seamless experience, we are rolling out this feature gradually over the next few weeks. This approach allows us to closely monitor performance and address any adjustments to enhance its effectiveness.

How It Works

With this new feature, Administrators and Account Owners can mute Click-Rage on specific elements in a few easy ways:

  • Website Settings: Mute or unmute Click-Rage by adding or removing CSS selectors directly in your settings.

  • Session Replay Timeline: Toggle muting elements directly from the recording timeline to fine-tune your friction insights during playback.

  • Heatmap: Mute or unmute Click-Rage from the click analytics within Heatmaps.

What Happens When an Element is Muted?

When a Click-Rage event is muted on a specific element:

  • No friction points will be added to your score

  • No Click-Rage tags will display in the Session Replay list

  • No counts added to click analytics on the selected element within heatmaps

Muted Click-Rage events will still be visible on the session replay timeline to allow quick unmuting if needed, giving you the flexibility to adjust at any time.

This update puts the power in your hands, helping you minimize unhelpful data and gain a more accurate view of user behavior on your site!

New Friction Event: 404

We’re rolling out a new way to help track and address user dead-ends on your site!

When visitors land on a 404 page, Mouseflow will now tag the session with a 404 friction event and add 5 friction points to the page view—making it easier to identify and address broken links.

How It Works

  • When a user encounters a 404 page, it will be marked as a friction event in their session replay and add 5 friction points to the pages total friction score.

  • Reloading a 404 page won’t add extra friction points, so your data stays accurate without inflating the page's friction score.

New Friction Event: Dead Clicks

We’re excited to introduce a new Friction Event - Dead Clicks!

Dead Clicks will be recorded when a user clicks on an element that appears interactive but is not (e.g., images or text that look like links but have no action behind them) - and will appear in your session timeline.

How It Works:

  • Dead Clicks are tracked only on non-clickable elements, so buttons and links are excluded.

  • Each Dead Click adds 1 friction point and will be marked in the recordings list as well as the timeline - helping you pinpoint these “false positive” clicks.

  • If Dead Clicks occur multiple times within a page view, each interaction will appear on the timeline, but friction points are given only once per unique element to ensure balanced scoring.

  • If a Dead Click escalates to a Rage Click, both friction events will be shown to highlight the escalation in user frustration.

You can disable Dead Click detection at the website level by contacting our support team at [email protected]. Historical Dead Clicks will remain in your recordings, but no new Dead Click events will be recorded after the change is made.

Friction Event Update: Mouse-Out

We’ve made some adjustments to the Mouse-Out event tag to improve the accuracy of your friction data. Mouse-Out is now a built-in tag with a new look!

What’s New:

  • Mouse-Out is now a built-in tag, similar to form interactions and submissions.

  • The tag now appears in blue, providing a clear distinction from other friction events.

  • This update applies to new recordings only, so friction points from historical recordings will remain as they are. You may notice the change in color but rest assured this does not impact historic friction points.

Why this update? Mouse-Out is a common user behavior and was often being triggered without indicating true friction. This update helps streamline your data, focusing on events that better represent genuine user friction.
