II. RATIONALE
Livestock rearing has always been an integral part of the culture. These animals have been
reared under different production systems, ranging from extensive to intensive.
The Agri-Tourism Techno-Demo Farm is initiated to livestock farm production since the
location is suitable for raising different farm animals. This will support the administration’s
listed priority program such as animal production, dispersal and among others.
Of late, challenges in the form of shortage and high cost of agricultural inputs, conservation
of indigenous animal genetic resources, impact of climate change, spread of zoonotic disease and
social awareness abut the environmental impact of animal agriculture ae threatening the
sustainability of livestock production in the municipality. Hence, this training.
III. OBJECTIVES:
Generally, the training aims to enhance the knowledge, skills and capabilitie of farmers and
partners on the production and management system of livestock.
Specifically:
Discuss the significance and characteristics of different livestock
Select appropriate breeds for each purpose
Determine and manage an appropriate diet for each livestock
Describe common health issues that can affect their prevention and treatment
Discuss safe animal handling
Determine viable plan for Techno-Demo Farm
