are defined and characterized by context.
its properties.
Equivalence: This concept involves
recognizing a set of interrelated
components or elements working together
to achieve a defined function or result.

SOI: The way we represent and interpret forms and spaces reflects social constructions of reality, philosophies, and belief systems,
allowing us to explore equivalence and patterns in personal and cultural expressions.

ATL:
1. Research: Seek a range of perspectives from multiple and varied sources.
2. Critical Thinking: Collect and analyze data to identify solutions and make informed

Task Title: Exploring Geometry Through Prisms

Task Description
1. Introduction:
Visit the interactive geometry website Prisms - Annenberg Learner. Explore the content and
animations related to different types of prisms, their properties, and how to calculate their volume
and surface area.
2. Exploration:
Using the information from the website:
▪ Identify at least three types of prisms (e.g., triangular, rectangular, and hexagonal).
▪ Analyze the differences in their cross-sections and geometric properties (e.g., edges,
vertices, and faces).
▪ Note down the formulas for calculating the surface area and volume of each prism.
3. Data Collection:
Using the interactive feature of the website, vary the dimensions (height, base length, and width) of
the prisms and record the following in a table:
▪ The type of prism.
▪ Dimensions (base, height, etc.).
▪ Calculated surface area.
▪ Calculated volume.
Create a dataset of at least five prisms with varied dimensions.
4. Analysis:
▪ Use your dataset to identify patterns or trends. For example:
▪ How does changing the height affect the volume?
▪ How does the shape of the base influence the surface area?
▪ Compare your findings to determine which prism is most efficient in terms of maximizing
volume while minimizing surface area.
5. Decision-Making Task:
Imagine you are an architect designing packaging boxes for a company.
▪ Based on your analysis, decide which type of prism would be the most cost-effective and
why (considering surface area and volume).
▪ Justify your decision with data and reasoning.
6. Presentation:
▪ Create a report or slideshow presenting your findings.
▪ Include:
▪ A brief explanation of the prism types and their properties.
▪ The dataset and graphs (if applicable).
▪ Your final recommendation for the most efficient prism, supported by evidence.
