The bar chart illustrates the release and ticket sales of four movie gen-

res namely drama, comedy, fantasy, and romance in a country over

two years, 1996 and 2000.
In terms of movies released, drama films dominated, accounting for
27% of releases in 1996, significantly more than any other genre that
year. Comedy was the second most prevalent at around 20% of re-
leases, followed by fantasy at 11% and romance at just 5%. By 2000,
the proportions of drama, comedy, and fantasy films had all increased,
but the share of romance movies remained virtually unchanged.
When examining ticket sales, comedy was the audience's clear fa-
vorite. In 1996, comedies made up 20% of total ticket sales, over 4
percentage points higher than the second-placed drama films at 16%.
Romance and fantasy lagged at 5% and 3% respectively. Fast forward
to 2000, and the popularity of comedy, drama, and fantasy movies had
all grown, with their ticket sales rising notably. In contrast, romance
films experienced a sharp decline, their share of tickets sold plummet-
ing to just 2%.
