Napoleon And Satire
Charlie Chaplin and Horace do a phenomenal job entertaining and explaining the idea and use of
satire in both of their works. The satire in Horace s Book I Sat I and satire in Modern Times are
different as satire in Horace uses satire in the ideas of people such as merchants and soldiers, while
satire in Modern Times is about the things happening around the little tramp and the things the little
tramp is doing. They are also similar as they both use many types of satirical devices such as irony
and both use humor to entertain the idea of satire.
In book I satire I, Horace begins essentially complaining about others complaining about themselves.
How come, Maecenas, no one alive s ever content with the lot he chose or the fate threw in his way .
Literary Analysis Of Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
A Sorrowful (and now dead) Woman
OR The Good (and now dead) Housewife
OR The Life and Death of the World s Best Mom

Gail Godwin s Sorrowful Woman develops the message that the archetypal role of mother and wife
is so constricting and limiting as to force the mother character to end her life. The end of the story
demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and detached narration in creating the text s message. A
Sorrowful Woman features a superficially simple narration style. Now the days were too short. She
was always busy, Stylistically clipped, with a clear passive, detached, voice the narration style seems
to be a banal, unimportant feature of the text. Yet the exact mendacity that prompts this description
actually serves as a prerequisite to developing an understanding for the principal character s mindset,
and consequently the theme of the text. The last passage contains numerous examples of detached
narration but the clearest occurs when She was always busy. She woke with the first bird. Worked
till the sun set. No time for hair brushing. Her fingers raced the hours. The concise, third person
narration in this segment allows the reader to experience the slightly off viewpoint of the mother.
Specifically, given the lack of motivation present through the text coupled with the concluding
suicide it becomes evident in the text that the mother is suffering from depression. Given the societal
stigma surrounding mental illness authors generally face an uphill
Elements Of Comedy In Merchant Of Venice
The genre of William Shakespeare s most performed play has been debated for a long time: is it a
comedy or a tragedy? The play has elements of both genres, but one is clearly prevalent. While the
story hits upon the tragic element of despair, The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, is a
comedy because lovers are separated, characters are in disguise, and the story has a happy ending.
From the very beginning of The Merchant of Venice, we see the comedic element of lovers being
separated time and time again. First, Jessica and Lorenzo are not permitted to marry or see each
other because of their different religions and her father s fervent hatred for Christians. Lorenzo
certain, and my love indeed / For who love I so much? (2.vi.30 31). Jessica and Lorenzo and
certain they are in love, despite the distance that separates them. Later, in Act 3, Bassanio must
leave Portia to return to Venice where Antonio is waiting to see him one last time. And then away
to Venice to your friend! / For never shall you lie by Portia s side / With an unquiet soul (3.ii.317
19). This separation between Bassanio and Portia allows the audience to connect with the irony of
these young lovers struggle. These separations between lovers lead to another element of comedy
costumes.
Of the three women in this play, each dresses as a man once, furthering the comedic air with
clever disguises. Jessica starts off the chain of costumes by dressing up as a torchbearer to flee
from her father s house. Cupid himself would blush / To see me thus transformed to a boy
(2.vi.39 40). Jessica s readiness to run away from her father triumphed over her embarrassment
about dressing as a man. In the same way, Portia and Nerissa don the clothes of lawyers to save
their husbands friend. There you shall find that Portia was the doctor / Nerissa there, her clerk
(5.i.298 9). This lie s hilarity is furthered when Balthazar is praised for being smarter than most men.
But the comedic elements don t stop there.
Accordingly, almost every character receives happy news at the end of the play, which doesn t
happen in tragedies. Antonio learns that his despair was all for naught when Portia hands over a
letter. Sweet lady, you have given me life and
Problems To Illegal Immigration
Did you know that immigration is actually good for the society. My sources say that immigration
has been of great social economic and cultural benefit to the U.S. People have always said that there
is problems with immigration, It is not immigration that is the problem the real problem is Illegal
immigration. There are many solutions so I researched them to find out what the society can do
about illegal immigrants. Throughout my research my main question I wanted to eventually answer
was how can we solve a real world problem like immigration? Why aren t there laws that could
prevent the problem of immigration? After all my research it won t be an easy problem to solve but
it is worth solving. People need to know how to stop illegal immigrants from entering this country.

There are many problems in the world including immigration, too many immigrants are entering the
united states illegally and it is causing the population to overflow. Even though this problem is
illegal immigrants so if should only affect illegal immigrants, it unfortunately affects all the
immigrants. This problem of immigration started when people started to want to immigrate to the
United States. After they immigrated they spread word to all their friends of how much of a better
life they were having here, maybe a better government, or maybe the freedom of religion. No matter
the cause all their friends have now started to immigrate here ,and the United States started to have
such and overflowing

Octavia Butler s Kindred vs. Harriet Jacobs Incidents In The Life of a Slave Girl

According to the conventions for slave narratives , it is possible to categorize Kindred by

Octavia Butler as a slave narrative. However, the circumstances that take Dana back in time are
imaginative and fantastical compared to slave narratives such as Incidents In The Life Of A Slave
Girl by Harriet Jacobs. While reading Kindred, one doesn t really get the experience of the slaves,
but how Dana feels as she participates in slave times. Compared to the lives of slaves, her life is
much easier and she has the luxury of knowing she is not and never was a slave. In contrast,
Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl is a direct portrayal of slavery through ... Show more content

It wasn?t just racial. They were used to black people. Maybe I could get Kevin to find out what it
is. (Butler 70)

Most slaves knew that education got slaves killed. Yet it never occurs to Dana that her speech, her
education, her whole aura was unlike any other slave encountered before and therefore she was a
potential threat to the slaveholder?s way of life.

Further parallels exist in the relationship they have with their masters. Jacobs? master, Mr. Flint,
is obsessed with having her and takes every chance he gets to proposition her in some vulgar
fashion. Yet while he desires her, he never tries to force or beat her into submission. Instead he
attempts to manipulate her and when that fails threatens to beat or kill her. Jacobs does not hide
her dislike of Dr. Flint and at times wonders herself why he does not punish her. She states,
?Sometimes I so openly expressed my contempt for him that he would become violently enraged,
and I wondered why he did not strike me? (Jacobs 35). With the threat of physical violence
constantly hanging over her head, she is terrified and traumatized by Dr. Flints constant harassment.

Dana?s master Rufus treats her much the same. Once he grows into a young man, he too becomes
obsessed with her and makes every attempt to seduce her. He is often kind and sweet but once
rejected he becomes enraged and violent. Dana recalls, I can?t be with you Rufus. You don?t love
me. You just want what you can?t
The Controversial Issue Of Abortions
As girls reach a certain age, they hit puberty and their bodies start to change. Mentally, their
hormones, attitudes and perspectives on life start to differ. Physically, they start to grow in places
that are visible to the human eye, but they also start to develop in places that we cannot see by just
looking at them. This includes their reproductive system, which worldwide has caused many
controversial issues that will be further looked upon throughout this paper. When the word Abortion
is heard, a heated argument often arises between couples, families, governments, and most
commonly throughout women s minds around the world. Over the past hundred years, the topic
of abortions has been an ongoing issue. Many people agree to this practice, while others see it as
completely absurd. In the past, present and most likely into the future, women have very little say
in deciding whether to have an abortion or to have a baby. For many women, rape is a major
issue. Without a choice, in most commonly a life or death situation, women are raped and
impregnated by the man who raped them. In cases like this, the majority of women are not
financially stable to have a child, nor are they physically or mentally prepared for the life they have
ahead. This is when the discussion of abortion comes into place and the controversial argument
begins. In Canada in 1892, parliament passed a criminal code that stated the prohibition of abortions
as well as the sale, distribution and

Proposed Confidentiality For Target Corporation
The proposal that I bring forth today, is for Target Corporation to obtain my services as a change
agent. All of the information needed to form a mutual relationship with a shared vision to protect
the consumer will be discussed. The major issue will be addressed and the intervention process to
correct his issue will be displayed. The methodology to complete this intervention is determined
along with the expectations of this project. This intervention will not be complete overnight, but a
timetable will be presented to ensure goals will be meet. The fear of trade secrets being released
will be resolved with a proposed confidentiality agreement. A simple payment process will need to
be set up after certain milestones are meet. Taking on such a significant task a major corporation
should rely on an expert, such as myself. Problem Target faces a major problem that many other
organizations are facing, keeping consumer information private. Protecting consumer information is
becoming more complicated due to the increase of technology available to those looking to steal
their information. In order to create a solution to this problem an organizational development
intervention would need to occur at a team level. The team level is the most appropriate level due to
the fact that for a major technological change to occur across the whole organization it would
involve analysis of the team not one individual (South University Online, 2015, para. 2). A
technology breach would
