A keyboard is used to input data and commands into a computer or other electronic devices

The keys on a keyboard are divided into different groups based on their functions.

1. Alphanumeric Keys

Examples: A-Z, 0-9


Function:

 These keys are used for typing letters, numbers, and basic symbols.
 They are mainly used for writing text, names, and numeric data.

2. Function Keys

Examples: F1 to F12
Function:

 These keys perform specific functions depending on the program


being used.
 Common uses:
o F1 – Help
o F2 – Rename
o F5 – Refresh
o F11 – Full-screen toggle

3. Control Keys

Examples: Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Windows, Esc


Function:

 Used in combination with other keys to perform shortcuts and


special operations.
 Ctrl + C = Copy, Ctrl + V = Paste, etc.
 Esc cancels an operation or closes a menu.

4. Navigation Keys
Examples: Arrow keys, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Insert, Delete
Function:

 These keys help move the cursor or screen without using the
mouse.
 Arrow keys – Move cursor/direction
 Home – Move to the beginning of a line/document
 End – Move to the end
 Insert – Toggle between insert/overtype
 Delete – Remove selected text or characters

5. Numeric Keypad

Examples: Numbers and symbols on the right side (0-9, +, -, /, *)


Function:

 Used for fast number entry, especially in data entry tasks.


 Functions like a calculator when Num Lock is on.

6. Special Keys

Examples: Enter, Backspace, Tab, Caps Lock, Spacebar


Function:

 Enter – Executes commands or moves to the next line.


 Backspace – Deletes the character to the left of the cursor.
 Tab – Moves the cursor to the next tab stop or field.
 Caps Lock – Switches all letters to uppercase.
 Spacebar – Inserts a space between words or characters.
