The cyclical process depicts how plastic bottles are recycled.
Overall, the process encompasses nine main steps, commencing with collecting plastic bottles and culminating
with the production of new end products. It is also important that half of the recycling procedure is carried out
manually, whereas the other half is supported by machines.
At the beginning of the process, individuals dispose of plastic bottles in the designated bins. They are then
gathered and transported by a truck to the recycling centre, where workers sort them manually on a conveyor
belt. Subsequently, these bottles are compressed into blocks before undergoing the next steps, which involve
machine processing.
The process continues with blocks being crushed and washed by a specialized machine to make plastic pellets.
These pellets are then heated to acquire raw materials, which are utilized in manufacturing usable
merchandise, ranging from bottles to containers. The process is repeated when plastic bottles are used and
discarded.

The given picture depicts how olive oil is manufactured. In general, there are seven main steps involved in
making oil from olives, commencing with harvesting ripe fruits and culminating with the end products being
stored or sold.
At the beginning of the process, farmers gather mature olives from trees to transport to a rinsing machine,
where they are washed with cold water. After being cleaned, olives are moved to the smashing machine by a
conveyor belt to acquire two products: olive paste and olive stones. These seeds are then removed, leaving the
paste to undergo further processing.
The process continues with olive paste being placed into bags with holes, after which it is compressed by a
machine. The next step involves using a separating machine to extract water from the olive paste, resulting in
the final olive oil. This oil is then distributed to stores for sale or storage.

Topic 3: Natural process
The diagram below shows the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
The picture describes how a salmon develops throughout its lifetime.
Overall, the salmon undergoes three main developmental stages, which take place in three different
environments. The entire growth process spans nearly a decade, from birth to adulthood.
The salmon starts its life cycle as an egg, which is laid beneath small stones surrounded by reeds in a slow-
moving upper river. Once an egg hatches about half a year after being laid, it produces a fry roughly 3 to 8
centimetres (cm) long.
The next step is for the fry to swim to the lower river with a faster flowing. After remaining here for
approximately 4 years, the fry develops into a 12-to-15-cm smolt and heads for the open sea.
The smolt spends around 5 years in the open sea, and after that, it increases roughly sixfold in size, reaching its
final form as an adult salmon, which measures 70 to 76 cm. Thereafter, this fish returns to the upper river to lay
its eggs, thereby restarting the cycle.
