Study of Mutual Impedance in Conductively Coupled Circuits
Objectives:
{o calculate the mutual impedance of conductive coupled circuit using theoretical relationship.

In the circuit shown in Fig. 1, the impedance Z), or Z3y common to loop | and loop 2 is called mutual

‘The network in the box may be of any configuration of circuit elements with two ports having two pairs
of terminals 1-1 and 2-2 available for measurement. The mutual impedance between port 1 and 2 can
be measured at 1-1 or 2-2. It can be defined as the voltage developed (V2) at 2-2 per unit current (/1) at
port I-1 . If the box contains linear bilateral elements, then the mutual impedance measured at 2-2 is
same as the impedance measured at 1-1 and is defined as the voltage developed (V/) at 1-1 per unit
current at port 2-2.
That means, Z). 2, the mutual impedance can be defined

Where Vis the voltage developed across Rs (terminals 22') and Vz is the voltage drop across R,. The
same result would have been obtained had the 1 set of resistors (Ry — Rs — R.) been transformed to an
Y set of resistors.

Fig. 3: Circuit diagram of a conductive coupled circuit.
Procedure
© Allnecessary components like Rheostats R, Voltmeter V and Ammeter A are connected
with the ac source (24-0-24 transformer) according to the circuit diagram shown in Fig.
3.
© Readings of the voltmeter and ammeter are recorded in data Table |.
© Also measure the resistance of the Rheostats using ohm meter and put these value in
table I.
©. According to the data, V2/tr ratio is calculated to get the mutual impedance of the given
circuits and compare this experimental value with the theoretical value.
