SUBJECT: SIGNAL ANALYSIS
LAB NO:03

COMPUTER ENGINEERING
Title: Signal Operation

Objectives:
To perform signal operation such as addition, multiplication and transformation.

Theory:
We can perform signal operations such as addition, multiplication, transformation
etc. Transformation is further divided into three parts i.e shifting, scaling and folding.
Addition and Multiplication

Transformation:
I)Scaling
The process of multiplying a constant to the time axis of a signal is known as time scaling
of the signal. The time scaling of signal may be time compression or time expansion
depending upon the value of the constant or scaling factor.
II)Shifting
Shifting means movement of the signal, either in time domain around Y−axis or
in amplitude domain around X−axis.

III)Folding
If we replace the independent variable n with –n then it is known as folding of signal or it is said to
be reflection of the signal about the origin n=0.

Discussion:
In this lab, we coded and perform the signal operations and their individual outputs
were studied and analysed both in discrete and continuous form. Our various doubt
was cleared in this lab that was remains in our theory class.
Conclusion
Hence, we can conclude that the nature of the signal operations (addition,
multiplication, shifting, scaling etc) and their value at certain instants were verified as
said by our teacher.
