Parent’s Guide

This is a handy guide to help your


child complete the writing activity for
Young Writers’ Annual Showcase! We
hope you both enjoy the activity!

All 4-18 year-olds are invited to take part in


Young Writers’ Annual Showcase which celebrates
all styles of writing up to 1,000 words!
By entering Young Writers’ Annual Showcase, aspiring writers have the
chance to be published in a real book and every entrant receives a
bookmark to thank them for taking part. Writers selected for publication
also receive a special Annual Showcase certificate.

Here are some ideas Writing Tips


to inspire a new piece Look at work your child may have already written for fun or at
of work... school this year – see if they’d like to enter that, or review it to
see if they can improve or extend it.
Your child has up to 1,000 words, but they don’t have to write
Poem Speech that much!
If more than one idea to write about appeals to your child,
Story Song Lyrics suggest they try writing more than one piece and then
submit their best one.
Play Blog They could write a series of poems on a theme such as
animals, seasons, their favourite things – this could be
rhyme, free verse, acrostics, haikus, etc.
TV or Movie Letter
Use a notebook to plan their story idea, then chapters, then
Script get writing (or typing)!

How to enter: Prizes


1. Your child needs to write or type their A winner in each age category will be chosen once
entry (only one entry per person) or an the showcase is published in December 2024:
adult can write/type it for them
4 year-olds
2. Ensure your child’s name, age and 5-7 year-olds
address are included and their work is
8-11 year-olds
no more than 1,000 words
12-15 year-olds
3. Email your child’s entry to 16-18 year-olds

upload it at www.youngwriters.co.uk/ Each winner will receive
competitions/enter. £100 and a trophy.

Closing Date: 13th September 2024
